It pays to be cautious

"With a second win in three games and a third consecutive game unbeaten, Margate look to be turning the corner".

as it says on the Club's site today. A bit like the recession, there could be a double bounce. Still victories over Hendon and now Kingstonian are very welcome. A play-off place is always possible but would it desirable for us to be promoted this season?

I think we have a team capable of promotion, just have to see what happens! Being just 3 points off 2nd place it does seem right now its achievable to aim for a play-off place.

My thoughts are mutually incompatable insofar as i obviously wish Margate to win every game, but frankly, i do not feel the infrastructure is there for probably another season.

(how would the additional signifcant travel costs be funded for example ? )

Lets get debts well and truly cleared ;and then slow and steady growth.

Lets see the attendances steadily climbing again.

Slow and steady growth tends to provide for long term growth

(its a bit like losing weight really-crash diets don't work full time )

That given-of course i want to win every game.

Above all-will we still be feeling the same way after next saturday-things and moods change very quickly.

Overall, a top half finish would be just fine by me-although it would be nice to win the FA Trophy this season !!

Michael, if you look at the geography of the Conference, there's currently only 5 or so clubs west of the M25. That would pose a problem. The ground is a bigger worry.

This league is wide open. The only teams I would totally rule out from making the play-offs are Bognor and Waltham Abbey.

As for the ground, I think you get a season's grace before you have to make improvements. Promotion could only be good for the club (not that I think it's going to happen this season).

As has been said earlier, promotion - any season, is always welcome. As to the question about extra travelling costs, at least we're not talking Conference National distances (which frankly are too much for most Non-League Clubs). One aspect that has not been mentioned on this thread is that a period of good results will generate a greater interest in Margate FC, with more bodies through the turnstiles.

However, wins against Hendon and Kingstonian and a draw against Hornchurch, are not enough to suggest we've turned the season around. Wait until the end of November, after we've played Canvey, Hastings, Waltham Abbey, Carshalton and Cray away + Tooting, Wealdstone and Billericay at home. If we go into December having earned 16 points from those games then we've turned the season around.

Promotion would be great, Big gates would be great.

At the moment all I want to see is a team that gives it a go, a team that fights. a team that does not back off, when we have that, everything else will fall into place.

Our hopes and dreams will come true.

Onwards and upwards.

Cant see promotion as happening this season, I would love to see us consilidate this season, get a decent league finish so we are not panicing about relegation come the end of the season. Gate numbers have been up a little over the last 2 games, matching with improved results, but I'm not deluded enough to think that means we can win or at least get a draw from every game.

The team are on a high at the moment after 3 good results, but lets see what happens after we lose a couple, if the players can pick the game up again to get back to winning ways. I am not a pessimist, and I truly believe that we have a good squad now, but lets see what happens with injuries and the like, lets see if we can be consistent before dreaming of promotion or play offs.

Let's all just slow down for a moment. Survival in this league this season will still be a successful season for me. Build on that next year - maybe top 10 or so - and then push on from there the season after and aim for a playoff place. It's still going to be a tough year, despite recent good results. I'd certainly take a point away at Canvey next Saturday - that will be a tough game.

Must agree with you there Mike, but could you cut the wait for promotion a bit, I'm getting a bit long in the tooth now and would like to be still around when it happens.
