Did we win without scoring??

From where I was standing (under the floodlight) I couldn't tell if that second "goal" did go in or not... it looked as though it had bounced over the line but whether it was fully over, I don't know... the players didn't seem too certain either way, although the Paulton ones doing the most protesting were further out than I was. And opinions differed among the Punto stand, even - one group were certain it was a clear goal, others weren't, and the people behind the goal were apparently sure.

Paulton certainly have every right to feel robbed: they played as well or better, nothing special but we looked even more ordinary. They just about deserved the goal, we certainly didn't. Same problem as before, if Chenns isn't scoring, no one else steps up. Marcus never looked like getting through. After he was subbed we had more chances but I don't remember any shots really bothering their keeper, and overall until both Joe and Jake were on we didn't look like creating anything special. Those two made a big difference, but it still looked like too little too late... then an own goal to equalise late in the game, suddenly we woke up and started pressing, in came the wide moves, in came the crosses, and finally *that* header in injury time.

2-1 and at most we scored 1 of them, possibly none... the next round beckons and let's hope this puts the fallow period behind us early in the season

Never EVER in and i feel for Paulton's players and fans. Us in the punto were in line with the goal line and we all KNEW it didnt go in! Didnt stop the wild celebrations as it means Mrs Cat's stag do is the next round!!!!

We were not great but neither where they. The subs made the change. Perhaps we should of started with that side. Who knows. All i know is we won! :discobanana:

and not sure if that was the Preliminary round (as implied on the FA Trophy site for today) or the 1st Qualifying (which is what our fixture list says) but we've got either £2000 or £2300 for the win...

Dan, not sure what you have read but the WEFC site has always had the fixture as FAT Pr R. The Evesham Utd game is FAT 1st Q R.

Oh well if you can't be good be lucky!

1st half was probably as bad as I've seen us play for some time. Apart from 1 Chennells shot which flashed wide we didn't really pose any attacking threat whatsoever. The midfield seemed too narrow and the fullbacks didn't seem to be getting forward. There never seemed to be an outlet when we had possession.

We didn't seem to get going until the last 20 minutes or so. Jake came on at half time and made a difference but the game seemed to turn on its head when Joe came on. Normal service seemed to be resumed and we started to attack down both flanks, the fullbacks started overlapping and suddenly it looked like a matter of time before we would score.

Having heard the Paulton bench incessantly whine and moan about anything and everything a couple of weeks ago at there place it was almost inevitable that sooner or later somebody would give them something to actually whine about! Step forward Mr. Linesman. If we only get one of those dodgy decisions in our favour all season, I'm pleased it happened yesterday.

So Mrs Cat you are pleased to 'win' because Paulton have an enthusiastic management team, so by the way do W&E. Nothing wriong with that?

What is disappointing is that football is not the winner. The focus is on 'dogey' decision so late in the game, by a linesman who hardly signalled for anything all afternoon, who did not appear to be in line with play and for which none of your players appealled it was a goal. The referee looked non plussed and had to 'go' with his assistant and 2 Paulton players were booked for dissent through being enraged.

Your manager through it was not a goal and W&E officials were almost embarassed and apologetic afterwards.

It strained relations with our two clubs which I have always felt very are very amicable.

As it is we feel 'diddled' out of a chance to have amassed £2000 prize money because of the way the 'result' was decided.

Ziderman you mis-understood the context of my comments. If you read the whole thread your see that some of us had already started to make plans for the next round (rather foolishly given our 1st half performance). It was with rather a large amount of relief the Linesman intervened on our behalf! It was nothing personal against yourselves, we’ve always enjoyed our trips to Paulton, and it’s usually one of the better away grounds to visit.

I don't think your find anyone at Windsor who thought it was a goal, its one thing the regulars in the Punto stand saying it wasn't in but when the boys behind the goal reckon it wasn't in either, then be in no doubt it wasn't in.

As one of the boys behind teh goal I can promise you it was on the line at best, and teh reaction from everyone involved (except the linesman) will just cement that fact. It was a horrid game to watch and i was trying to organise the journey for the replay when the incident happened. i was wondering what the lino had given a foul for (assuming it was against us) when he gave a goal. From a Windsor point of view the only people who cane out of that with any credit were Jake and Joe, who really proved they should both have started.

I hope the incident doesn't put a strain on a reasonably amicable relationship between the two clubs, you will notice no gloating on this site as we consider ourselves to be very fortunate to be through.

And if we don't get our act together we will definitley not be going through in the next round.

Sorry guys, I don't want to stir things up but the linesman WAS in the best position to make the decision, not the boys behind the goal, nor in the punto stand or us old gits in the chicken run!

To state the obvious, strange decisions always happen in football matches and we have had loads against us in the past, think back to the Paulton home game 2 years ago when they won 2-1.

In this particular match I agree that we were much better in the 2nd half when the tactical switch was made. This also adds weight to what the Farnboro fans warned us about, that Mr Richardson isn't really up to standard at this level. See you all Saturday against Taunton.

The Linesman may of been in the best postion but he got it wrong!! Where i was stood was directly in line and it was clear as day it wasnt in!

Think us fans in the Punto who gave the lino stick for giving a corner and not a free kick moments before should get some credit for perhaps 'swaying' the Lino when there was a half hearted jokey "Its In!" Which suddenly made the lino run off flagging for the goal!!

Dont quite know what Zimmerfan wants from Windsor? We all agree it wasnt in but the players wouldnt of known 100% either way so are hardly going to tell the ref to not give a 90th min winner! Best of luck for the rest of the year apart from when you return to Stag Meadow!
