Question for the fans

Ok here's a question for you all to ponder... would you rather:

a: Slough Town get promoted this season?

OR

b: Slough Town reach the FA Cup 3rd Round with an away tie at Manchester United?

Before you make your decision, some points to consider... IF we reached the FA Cup 3rd round and went out (obviously!) to Manchester United with the cup winnings, gate receipts (let's say we got 40,000 at Old Trafford), any TV money and extra merchandise/commerical activity, the club could make around £500,000. Now not winning the league could also mean we only lost in the play-off final and just a portion of that £500,000 could be ploughed back into an already good team to really go for the league title next year. Plus that money would not only keep the club going for many years but could also be used to create a reserve team, expand the youth section (when/if we get the new ground) and really place the club in a very strong position.

I think there would be a lot more than 40,000 at OT if that happened. From memory when Exeter got drawn there a few years ago they made almost a million pounds. I'd take that over anything we achieve in the league. Just think of how many people in the town would suddenly become Rebels fans.

It would depend on what ticket prices were agreed Ian. I think when Man Utd played Exeter the tickets were in the region of £10-£15. But yeah it would be interesting to see the thousands of new Rebels fans appear overnight!

Our away form is better than our home form at the moment! (in the league anyway) We wouldn't be allowed to play at home anyway but it'll be a nice headache to have!

the only reason that we would not be allowed to play it at home is if the local authorities say that it would be unsafe to do so.then we would be able to enquire the use of another local professional outfits ground , ala yeading/newcastle at qpr

Can you really see us playing Man Utd at Holloways Park??!! Yes you can only switch venues if the authorities say so but I think it'll be pretty 100% certain the match would be switched to most probably either Wycombe or Reading.

Although you could switch the game to a local league clubs' ground you would only be entitled to the receipts taken as if the game was played at Holloways Park ie 3,000 capacity or whatever. Take away the costs from that and you wouldn't be left with much! Those are the rules after Farnborough's switch to Highbury purely to make more money a few seasons back.

Never mind 3,000, I'd like to see 1,000 try to get into Holloways Park. It's not the biggest and viewing would not be good from the sides and the far goal as it doesn't have the type of terracing Stag Meadow does. You could tell from our cup games there that Stag Meadow could cope with the quoted 2,950 capacity.

Perhaps you can enlighten me but what was the FA's problem with a lower league club being rewarded for getting so far in the FA cup and making as money as they could if their ground was not up to scratch for safety reasons?

Wasn't it the Farnborough game against The [****!!****] that kicked this one off? Not sure what the misdemeanour was, other than switching the game to Arsenal's ground.
