Past SSML Teams

Recommended Posts

Was just going through past league tables on the SSML and found some teams that no longer play in this league, either they went elsewhere, folded or changed names, anyone care to shed some light?

1.Milton Keynes City (I know they folded, shame)

2.De Havilland

3.Brook House

4.Somersett Ambury V&E

5.Greenacres (Hemel)

6.Haywood United

7.Millcutt Rovers

8.Shillington

Brook House became AFC Hayes 3 or 4 years ago and still play in Southern League Division One South & West and I believe that Greenacres were running as Hemel Hempstead reserves at the time.

Cheerrs boys, so quite a big jump for Brook House then, anymore for anymore. I mean keep it within a decent range, unless Rhodes wants to go back to the 17th Century

... re the original post - there's a fairly cold trail for the two remaining clubs mentioned - Milcutt Rovers & De Havilland

Milcutt spent two seasons in the lower reaches but vanish after finishing 12th in Div Two 01-02 - the Non-League Directory entry for 2001 has them playing at Sharpenhoe Rd - so maybe some Barton Rovers related stuff could be unearthed

De Havilland - is a bit more promising: there are various strands of clubs playing under that name, as well as in and around Hatfield and from associated industries (Rolls Royce/Hawker Siddeley etc) BEFORE the odd demise of De Havilland 00-01 season.

Strange that the Football Club History Database [FCHD] does not have any clubs linked directly to De Havilland BEFORE they joined as founder members of the SPARTAN South Mids in 97/98 in Div One North - BUT 'De Havilland (Hatfield)' exist up to 95-96 in the South Mids - and were a bit of a front runner too.

The NL Directory also shows a 'De Havilland' lining up in Div One for 96-97.

Logic suggests they must be the same club - they also played at Comet Way - anyone from the Hatfield area know?

Still stranger - FCHD doesn't show a De Havilland club playing in 96-97 season - yet the NLD has them in the final table in 3rd place.

De Havilland's eventual 'demise' was odd because they had seemed to be fairly successful on the pitch up to their resignation season in 00-01 - again I think the FCHD is a bit adrift here it states they resigned in April 2000 but their playing record was expunged at 22 games in the 00-01 season so must have been April 2001?

Perhaps some financial crisis in the Aero/Engine Industry led to the collapse of the Sports and Social side - I know the Company I used to work for underwent a similar cost-cutting re-org which virtually wiped out any extra-curricular activities overnight.

I'll put this particularly dusty Anorak back in the Loft and let someone who knows what they're talking about, take over!

Hopefully your boys can make the step to SSML next season, wouldn't it be nice to get one over Lord of the Manor Rhodes :97:

An incentive could be to see Rhodes choking but its not a great reason. Rhodes has become a one man hate campaign against Southill Alexander which has nothing to do with the SSML and I apologise for my part in "reflecting" comment towards him. I feel that its only fair to be allowed to rebut his ludicrous comments but feel for those who really couldn't give a toss.

As I've said many times, my associates just wanted to start a club from the ground up, build a club from scratch, a lot of people will naturally be curious about our ability, some with suspicion but none except Rhodes has chosen to target us with such spite and dripping poison. Most have questionned and then decided to sit back and see, some have given the benefit of their advice and whether positive or critical in a way we have found it all useful and valuable, we are so keen to learn.

We just wanted to start where was appropriate and maybe we accepted some advice that did not benefit us or was appropriate and maybe some people thought we had a bit of a cheek, some arrogance but when baited to the extreme you don't want to just roll over and die, you respond. We don't take anything for granted, we don't assume anything but of course like most clubs, without aspirations what would be the point?

Personally I don't think Rhodes truly or fairly represents the vast majority of SSML let alone Non League fans who just appreciate honest competition and genuine banter.

also Shefford,Wolverton Town,Shenley & Loughton, Loughton Orient, Letchworth Bridger, Luton Old Boys, AC Delco, Electrolux.........

Letchworth Bridger were originally Bridger Packaging, plus you had the Letchworth team with Kerry Dixon in charge. Wasn't there an MK based side playing under the name of Abbey National a couple of years ago?
