GHA EFM

EFM - SS games were never taken too seriously, no. But they were taken seriously enough.

The thing is, when you start up a proper football team (proper in the most distant sense of the word), eventually the heart and soul of what made the club what it is will move on or away. As I've said before, how many Spurs players were born or live in Tottenham? A simpler example is SACFC. Simon Martin's the only one who lives in and comes from St. Albans.

We could leave EFMFC the way it is but also go back to the EFM - Aylesbury Chicken Run days, organising a few friendlies against other sets of supporters and against a few works teams etc.

Memories from the Aylesbury game, the Homebase game, the Enfield game, and the other one. All quality. That'd retain the heart and soul of EFM, but could a team be raised? All the while, those that want to can play for EFMFC and get their SS - EFM match at the end of the season.

why not start AFC EFM ?..

i played rugby ar school from 12 till 16 i was pretty good as well in a average team

then after a 11 year break i went to canvey rugby club to play originally for their thirds who were average but it was fking great fun.. i shone like a beacon ;-) and they wanted me to play for the seconds .. reckon i could have hacked the firsts easily but i didnt have the time for away games.. plus the firsts were taking it far to seriouslly for me and there was minimal fighting.. so i decised to play home games only for the thirds.. i should have tried out for southend really as they are a proper club but canvey was too much fun.. i'd play anywhere in the back row.. my fave moments were smacking up some first teamers in rugby league at training when they used the third team as cannon fodder.. put some big thighed pacey centre on his [****!!****] and give it a bit of 'are you allright mate?' as you jog off...

You seem a little desparate, GHA. In fact some might see it as grovelling.

Funnily enough, LMU, I am a member of the original EFM Firm. Claire!'s actions (please let me in EFM, please, I'll do anything, no EFMTFTV I won't do that) were grovelling. Mine are reminiscing.

Unfortunately, in the real world, things evolve and EFM the football team and EFM the firm are getting further and further apart. As Mr Zeal will already know, I sat down with a list of 20 people last night and called (or tried to call) all of them. Of that list, I would say that 6 or 7 of them are "EFM". It would be great to have a team of EFM Firm members, say 14 or 15 of them who had a team, all turned up every week and didn't mind if they got spanked or not. It doesn't work like that. I can run you off a list of names for people that will say that they are EFM, and even in some cases that they want to play for EFM, but where the hell are they on a cold Sunday morning in the pouring rain in November? Quite possibly still in bed, still hungover, and thanking their lucky stars that they're not standing in the pouring rain trying to put up a set of goalnets.

People don't hang around a team that loses 10-0, or 15-0 every week. If EFM (The Firm) was fortunate enough to have 15 or so talented footballers, then there would have been no need to bring in anybody else in the first place, and there wouldn't be any complaining about it in places like this. There aren't though, and there weren't two years ago when we were getting eight, nine or ten players per game. The reality is that if we'd had matches cancelled for not being able to field a team, we'd have incurred fines that would have resulted in the club folding or being thrown out of the league in any case.

Of the team that is likely to start the first game of the season at the end of August, I would say that Ginger Dave, Costello, Griffiths, Carl, Zeal and Librarian will all be there and likely to be selected. GHA may be too, if he registers, and so on. I'm not counting myself, because it's doubtful that I'll play (because I'm sh1t, and usually too hungover on a Sunday morning). Who's going to be the one that tells Lee Wood that he's not "EFM" enough to play any more, even though he works for Lee Harding and played practically every game last season? Which members of The Firm are we talking about that are losing out so much? Hooded Man, who has only ever turned out to watch but would be considered to play if he wanted to? EFMTFTV, who, by his own admission, is very seldom in anything like a fit state to even stand around on a Sunday (or is working, or on his way to Billericay for his radio show)? Alex, who... errr... was injured for the whole of last season? Shall I go on? The list is long enough, so I can if you like.

How many "Saints Supporters" go regularly to The Park? How many City players come from St Albans? How many members of, say, the Thirlmere church team go to church? Contrary to the opinion of some, it quite possible to enjoy football, win and take it seriously. There's no copyright over the EFM name, but this is the way that it has evolved, so get used to it. If anybody from The Firm who's reading this and wants to get more involved, they should know by now where to contact me, or at the very least should know somebody that can pass on my details. What would be unfair would be if players who went to the trouble of turning out every week last season and/or the season before got shunted to one side because one week a few members of The EFM Firm suddenly decided they fancied a game.

I've got to say I'm with Trev here (no offense meant CZ - I think you knew my opinion anyway)

I actually think EFM football on a Sunday is still enjoyable, and, why is it that when people are asked "which members of EFM feel that they can't play anymore" they always say "the hooded man" - he never seems that bothered about it when I speak to him.

Zeal - I think the problem was that there simply weren't enough people turning up on a regular basis before things were changed last season.

I'm with Trev on this as well.

I think you'll find that virtally every player in every other team in this league are w*nkers!

We've been lucky that we've managed to get good blokes in the team to join the firm members.

You can't say people like Haggs isn't EFM, because he is!

Players like Corns, Mike, Geordie etc etc can cut it with the best of us when we hit a big night out.

Prehaps if CZ were to come to a few more of the social events (you missed the Xmas do, the SS game and Newcastle) you'd realise they are all good blokes, and in true EFM style we still lose most games with them

Lets face it people who are the firm, in the orignal sense and SACFC supporters don't number enough for a team, we have people at uni (Ben, Carl, Costello, Barks), people who can't do Sundays (Tom and me) people who can't be bothered (Jimmy, Farrow and me and Tom again), people who play for other teams (Dave Ash) we needed players who would turn up and we're lucky they are alright people and some of them have been seen at City games since joining (Haggs, Mike and Geordie have been down a few times).

You misunderstood, you twats.

I'm not saying kick out the non-Firm members from the Sunday team. I know they're good blokes.

I'm merely saying that the Firm and Football Team should be independent, and as the Firm had the name first, EFM FC should change its name.

Jeez. Some people.
