Aveley 3 Burnham 1 : just us left of the local clubs now.

 

Nice to still be in the cups as long as our league form doesn't suffer as a consequence. We play Tooting in the next round of the FA cup and on the following Tuesday we are away to Hitchin in the league. Given the choice of one or the other I would rather win against Hitchin.

I Disagree. I would rather get further in the cup, there is plenty of time for the league yet and we could pump the extra money into giving our squad more depth so that we can have a good run in at the end.

 

I disagree. I would rather keep in touch with the top of the division than fall behind and start playing catch-up. Also pumping more money into the squad will not guarantee a good run in at the end to make up for any deficit.

I think it's great we're playing our 5th cup game already on Sunday so early in the season when we've been so used to going out in the first round of every competition. Of course we all hope we do well in all 5 competitions this season but I think we'd all select the league, FA Cup and FA Trophy as the priorities. If we win on Sunday that's worth another £2,000 to the club on top of the £9,000 already won and that's not including shared gate receipts. Imagine The Rebels being in the hat when that 1st round draw of the FA Cup is made, just think Leeds United away or even (dare I say it) Wycombe Wanderers!

We all like a good cup run, its just making sure that when it comes to an end it doesn't transfer to the league.

 

Look at the season we beat Walsall. After losing to Yeading it all went downhill in the league and the side finished 13th. We were all wondering how a team can do so well and yet finish so poor.

 

That's my only concern.

Well, I want to see us in the First Round Proper so I'd personally take a win against Tooting over a win against Hitchin. We have a good side and a good cup run can really galvanise a league challenge. It's still very early on. You might point to the Walsall season, but I don't think the side was good enough to get promoted anyway. Instead, look at Yeading who that season got to the 3rd Round and, of course, went on to win the league.

It's true, even if this money is not invested in this seasons team, it is still a hell of a lot of money for a non-league club at this level! I know we are pretty stable at the moment but any extra money can only really be a good thing, even if it isn't used now.

 

Would love to see us do as well as possible in all competitions, so I say just take the games one at a time and get behind the team! Bateman knows what he is doing and will push for the best results every time I'm sure.

Let keep going ..its good for moral .., a good cup run a good standing in the league ...will go a very long way to restoring the Rebels and its supporters with pride...

also I belive its 2300 pounds for the FA trophy this round !
