Major Software Upgrade

Hi,

 

I am about to undertake a nice big upgrade of the site - this will take place in two stages...

 

There will be a standard upgrade to a new version of the forum software here - this will have a few immediate affects - any hacks that I have added, like the quick reply box, will vanish. All user titles will revert back to their default as well for a short while - hopefully you will be able to select new titles very soon.

 

There will also be a slight re-jig of the forums here, with a couple of new forums being opened

 

Then in about a weeks time (give or take a few days), we will have the start of a brand new look around here - some features will go, others will come.

 

If there is anything you would like to see added here, then let me know - I am open to suggestions - anything at all.

 

I plan the first upgrade today (Wednesday) - I will of course back the database up first but you may see short spells of downtime. All downtime will be kept to a minumum - but I will add a notice at the top of the page.

LOL - since i said i was going to have downtime, it has been up, as I have suddenly become busy - typical!

Regretfully the upgrade is not going well.

 

Found a bug that affected every part of forums, so fairly big I have had to restore the backup - and the backup database, so that you re able to enjoy the forums, in the morning.

 

Hopefully everything is still okay.

 

As soon as I have a fix, I will try again - but it may not be tonight.

 

I will update this thread as soon, as I have some news - sorry for any additional downtime.

I s'pose the old adage "if it ai'nt broke don't fix it!" may apply here, but if we don't try then we don't improve. Oh well thats life.

The upgrade here has been abandoned - I spent so many hours on sorting out one user here, that it has cost the upgrade here.

 

I am still struggling to catch up.

 

However, I will have some good news very soon
