what's your favourite hornchurch vs romford memory?

2nd leg of the league cup at their place?

kit sponsor?

own goal at rush green?

their keeper pretending he'd been kicked?

coups face after hearing the price of a bottle of wine?

tbags general all-round bitterness?

obviously for most of us these will be recent memories, since we're gloryhunters/young whippersnappers/younger than 60.

I remember jamie roberts(tree, remember him,he was also a collier row fan???) getting laid out by big trev at the end of the eastside back when the two clubs romford & collier row merged, must be about 1988/89)

I also enjoyed the own goal game and walking through the players tunnel with tree before kick off

I remember watching Romford play Kettering in the Southern League at Brooklands. Now what happened to the proceeds from the sale of that place?

Sale price £600,000

Debts £350,000

Tax £150,000

Two-year lease £35,000

This left only £65k to redevelop Oldchurch and when that dried up our 14-year sabbatical began.

I am sure there were rogue traders who ended up with a few bob in their back pocket, but at least us lambs were not led to the slaughter twice by the same wolf.

Judging by the tenet of these posts, it is interesting to see that 'his' spirit lives on and that none of you are still in denial.. :dance (2):

i remember back in 1969 going to brooklands stadium to watch speedway romford bombers v belle vue colts

the speedway club as shut down and the end of 1971 season due to noise complaint , but while they

were racing the brooklands stadium was packed with crowds of 5,000 plus every week

Have you lot seen how quiet the Rumford Forum has gone since the site up-date ?? :monkey:

they are a very insular lot and think they prefer to stay 'at home' so to speak as they can't quite handle open debate.

However I would say they were very open last night or at least their defence was.........5 times!!!

My memory of Romford will always be when then fielded an illegable player in the cup semi final and the Hornchurch fans were told in the first half who in turn, had to tell the Romford players. The look on their faces - priceless. Then their secretary resigned because he cost them £3k in gate receipts etc as they were chucked out and there was no second leg at their place. He could of paid Romford a tenner a week to repay it and stayed as secretary.

Oh dear, and I thought it was only us hacks who let a good story distort the truth.

Our secretary then is still in place today. Probably cost us around £2k to be honest, but thankfully the family silver remains unsold :)

Must try harder.
