we used to talk football

We used to talk football on this forum but never seem to touch the subject now

I thought our performance against Tooting was dire, all hoof and run when we have been nourished over the years on pass and move

We lacked quality in the pass, defenders almost always went for the hollywood fifty yarder and failed, our attackers rarely if ever won a header against much taller and better in the air players, great football players/managers all state the same "football is a simple game" but of late we have developed the need for complications

If we do not get back to the simple pass where players work harder being available and the simple pass is always the option I fancy us to blow out again this season, when we play our pass and move game there are few better, when we play the hoof upfield we look dreadfull

When I next see you in the bar Pabird, let me buy you a beer as a thank you for posting something on this formerly great forum that has a link to football at Canvey Island. I look on here quite regularly but it seems to be used as a short text messaging service for people who see each other quite regularly anyway. Rarely any arguments, discussions or points of view. Even Matt takes up more space in his postings with his favourite film titles than he does with copy (although his match reports are always interesting - he was taught well!!!)

Come back John Crawshaw, all is forgiven.

With regard to Tooting, it seems such a shame that so few players seemed to want to be involved, even with £4,500 at stake. How different from the previous Tuesday night's game against Hastings when we appeared to chase every ball and never gave up. I am no lover of the long ball but when it is played well it can get results. When it is played badly you get what we saw last Saturday.

Although I don't pretend to have invented the term sexy football, it is a phrase I used quite often when writing my match reports all those years ago. And it was sexy to see the ball rolled around between players who appeared to dance their way into the opposing half. I know we can't expect to go back to the 'Glory Days' but we could at least look at the tactics that we employ and, when we seem to be facing a losing battle, change them for something more appropriate.

Having said that we are still 2nd in the league so Mr Batch must be doing something right. But why don't more people want to come and see it?

That was the most frustrating thing about the Tooting game - How well we had played against Hastings beforehand and those that moaned most throughout the game weren't even there to see it! :smashfreakb:

  • 1 month later...

Will be my first game on Saturday since the Play off final. Was a home and away regular for years until this point. Started browsing the OS only to discover that our ground is no longer called Park Lane (?!?!? - commercial interest huh), then i thought I'd pop onto the forum for a catch up on all the gossip. Where the hell is everyone ?

Apologies if this is in the wrong thread but (1) I though the title rather applicable, yet could be simplified into just "We used to talk", and (2) this was the only thread with any discussion.

Whats happened ? Are attendances also way down from 18 months back ?

I was looking forward to Saturdays little venture onto the Island, but must say now i am a bit apprehensive :dance (2):

Agree Matt, both forums are pretty dead at the moment but other clubs' forums seem really quiet.

Welcome back LOS..

To be honest i think the interest in using these type of forums is well down, its the same across most clubs..

With regards to attendances we are still averaging around the 400 mark which is pretty good at this level especially with the current financial climate.

Im sure you will enjoy your return visit to the Brockwell Stadium in Park Lane ( and yes the name change was made for very good commercial reason )

Call me a pedant but including today's game your average home league attendance is actually 334 and you are exactly half way in the Premier Division attendance table. So your 'pretty good' in reality is actually (and exactly) just 'average'. Sorry.
