Tonights echo says he is going to train with us this week, central midfield i think. He has been offered a years contract by southend but it kooks like he`s going to turn it down.

I see also that Southend are after another ex-Chelsea man in the form of Rhys Evans the England U-21 Goalkeeper, (I could've sworn he was Welsh!)

 

So so far we have reports of two trialists who play in positions that aren't exactly vacant at our Club and to my knowledge we've received nothing official from the Club...

I agree Dobbo played very well last season but everyone has to fight for a place in the team, competition for each position is what makes a good squad.

Amazing to think Ronin that for the first couple of months of the season, Dobbo was left out in the cold on the terraces. I think I remember his first League game for us being the Bedford away game which we lost. I thought he played well, I thought he deserved more from the Club at the time and I still think he's good enough now...

It always goes like this pre season, you/me can pick our starting 11 out of last seasons players and be fairly happy with it.... BUT then the club sign a couple of players who are better than what we have got and all of a sudden players who walked into the side last year are either moving on or standing in the bar. That`s the way football is, you can never stop improving the team.

WHY WE DONT NEED THURGOOD HES POSSIBLY THE WORST SIGNING EVER I MEAN MINTON AND PROTHEROE ARE QUALITY AT THIS LEVEL MAYBE IF WE WERE IN THE CONFERENCE WE MIGHT NEED HIM BUT REMEMBER SCOTT FORBES HE CAME SAW AND DIDNT PLAY MUCH SO I DONT THINK WE SHOULD SIGN HIM.

Will Curran be down there tonight as well? Interesting to see him, Boylan & Berquez up against each other. Even if it is only a practise!

 

Aren't the boys back a bit early for Pre-Season training though? I thought it wasn't for another fortnight at least!!

My mate was on trial last year at Southend and said Thurgood was possibly the worst player there and with the worst attitude.

I find some of these posts very funny, i know nothing about Thurgood apart from he plays for southend and they have offered him a new contract so in their opinion he is good enough for league football. Some posts on here seem to think he is not good enough for CIFC, maybe he isn`t but shouldn`t we just wait and trust our management teams judgement.

I see your point Ronin, but had you known this time last year what you know now, would you have signed Matt Jones, Jason Dozzell, Dean Greygoose & David Gregory for Canvey if you were in charge?

 

Ok so Thurgood is only 21 or so, but our Central Midfield is crowded enough at the minute. Another addition in that position will only trouble things more and if Jeff thinks Squad Rotation is the answer, then I'm afraid he's wrong. Squad Rotation dented our first 1/4 of last season!

 

That is unless we're going to put him at DR or DM/AM L!

 

BTW - I also see that our ex-Player Mark Graham has signed for St. Albans! A good addition for them I feel.

I think you know the answer to that one, but that`s why you have trials. Your point about the midfield is a valid one but who knows what players are still to be released/ transfered or who is still to sign, i don`t

Didn't really put enough effort in to get fit again from what I here, seems as if he was content to sit in the stands each week and collect his pay cheque rather than earning it.
