It has been mentioned somwhere else that there seems to be a problem with the team playing at home. It appears to reflect in the points won home and away. Do you think it is the ground that is the problem? Do the players feel a bit open playing there with basicallly just two sides that have any sort of development.

The other problem, I find, is that it is not particularly supporter friendly. At this time of year it is not a big problem but come the winter months it is pretty depressing. The Hartsdown end, which used to be a nice large terrace has gradually been filled in over the years leaving very little space or cover for fans when its cold and wet. The coffin end is non existant with no terrace and the seated stand, again. is small and gives very little shelter in inclement weather. Is it any wonder supporters are not keen on attending matches. Our support this season must be the worst for some years, so although the form hasn't been that good, we have maintained good attendances over the last couple of seasons. However this season may just be the point when fans are saying enough is enough, particularly as the weather is still pretty good but crowds are falling.

Alternatively, are we just afraid of playing in front of a large crowd?

Our wins this season have been in front of 345(Boreham Wood)/243 (Averley) / 159 (Hendon)

draws 120 (Ashford), 402 (Sutton), 355(Hornchurch)

Defeats 508 (Sutton), 653 (Dartford), 156 (Harrow), 423(Cray), 301 (Sutton), 356 (Horsham)

-------------------------------------------------------------

Attendance Under 350 - 3 wins/1 draw/1 defeat from 5 games

Attendance Over 350 - 2 draws/4 defeats from 6 games

A lot of truth in this IMO, when they play away matches the following fans are 99% behind the team, with the odd moaner. As I have said before on this forum we seem to have too many fans who seem to get on the players backs virtually from kick off at home matches!

I agree Alan, there is a little line of them standing at the back of the stands at Hartsdown Road end behind me!! moaning and criticising from kick off to final whistle. I end up having to move most of the time as I get sick and tired of listening to it.

Whats the point of going to watch your team play and moaning all the time??? Get behind them!!

Everybody has the right to say what and how they feel at the end of the day , i will always speak my mind and if one player is not pulling his weight he should be told thats why we have a manager so he can do these things . I know there are the moaners at the ground but they are the sort of people that moan not just about the game they moan about everything from the minute they get up in the morning . There are all sorts of people in this world and thats how it goes , if we were all the same how boaring would it be . Alan you speak of the people on here that seem to just speak and down the players because they want to well not the case with some of it . i have been in charge of upto 25 staff at points of my working life and if one slacks he gets told because other lads tell me , they don`t dislike him they just want him to pull his weight like they are , if you were in charge or are incharge of people you would`nt let them get away with it something would have to be said , its the same with the players if they ain`t pulling there weight we tell em .

Weather its us having a go or Jk having a go same thing because we care and in this game its all for one and one for all im affraid , one player slacks the rest can go down very quickly but if they are all up for it then things are good .

I dont mean on here Andy or the odd moan during the game to yourself or others around you. I do mean those you mentioned who, it seems to me, just moan full stop even if we are winning. Unless its constructive criticism and not destructive Andy I do agree on that point with you.

Unfortunately, with the plethora of boring premiership football on tv,people used to watching that seem to think that Players (and officials) are all of that standard and expect to see the same quality at Margate for £9 that they can see at Chelsea for £59 a game.

Players and officials at ryman level are at this level because they are not as good and above all not as consistent .They are of course part time but many do not appreciate that.

However-they offer tremendous value for money to me.

Apart from that-as Andy says-we are all strange creatures, and some people are just natural whingers-so be it-their prerogative to live their lives that way

Or could it be that one or two players aren't pulling their weight and should be given a rocket, if fans see these same players coasting thru games week in week out eventually patience runs out and things will be said.

I don't think its a lack of ability that brings about these reactions, but a lack of effort.

How do you tell if a player is putting in the effort though ?

What exactly is 'effort ' ?

Players have a wide variety of skills making uop a team .

Some run more than others.

Some head the ball more than others, but do little running

Some score more than others.

Goalkeepers do no running but can save a game.

Who is putting in more effort ?

A player may do less running than normal, but may be carrying an injury which we do not know about, but has turned out for the cause.

I just think its very difficult (as a spectator ) to both see and define effort.

Thats why for me-the key to any team is the manager as only they know whats going on.That given-many managers are useless because they either do nothing about correcting things, or have no interpersonal skills to correct things-given that all players have different personalities and react different.

Injuries do cloud the issue because you do not want the opposition to know of any weaknesses, most players are carrying knocks of some sort during the season, therfore spectators are also mainly unaware.

That said some players very often show a new dimension to their game wether it is covering more effective yardage or improving other skills,ie communications, accurate heading, positional play and that elusive effort in being first to a 50/50 ball come hell or high water.Thats when the regular spectator can notice improvement or decline in "form".

End of lecture.

Anyway

Personally i think when you see a player that rarely seems to exert themselves in an attempt to win a race for a ball or gain that extra yard on his opposition, makes no effort to atone for a bad pass by trying to win the ball back or wanders about while others are forced to do their running for them then that shows a lack of effort.

I may not be a manager but i've watched enough football at all levels to know when a player is trying or not.

Good points/discussion above.

returning to the theme of Home form;

WE ARE NOT ALONE

Excepting dartford and hendon(played one more home game),no team has won more than 50% of its home games so far !!

Frankly-we're all pretty useless so it seems. Yet one more example of the unpredictability of this league ?

Do we take heart from the fact that we probably are'nt out of third gear yet, but remain in touch regardless ?

Imagine how different it would all look if we had just won one home game more.

I do fear with TY leaving though, that we are going to stall and slip back to second or even first gear.

Good point for the decision makers to consider, Ryman south beckons then what? attendances 200+? Only plus it will be easier to park the car nearer the ground.

What a boost for the club if TY came back and i don't mind parking further away.

Whilst like so many- i wish that TY was staying in the managers role, my main concern now is the effect that uncertainty and delay will have upon the players.

Hopefully i will be wrong, but i get the impression that there will be no great hurry to appoint his replacement (the usual truism, its got to be the right decision )and this will cause us to lose ground.

Most people -especially younger people- need leadership and certainty and without that flounder badly.

Thus-regettably accepting that the brief TY era is over, my concern now is the delay in appointing his succeesor and the damage caused in the interim.

Again, like many, results maybe did not (yet) quite depict it but TY had got a little bit of momentum going, and more was going to quickly follow.
