As I have said many times before, it is not easy in this job as I take the good word of the home side re the scorers and this very informative report confirms what I have said - also, Centre Spot has now been written so I will now have to await the Result sheet before being able to change the official records ..... nevertheless, I respect your comments and at least I will not forget the name Barrington as the late Kenny of Surrey and England was one of my favourite cricketers as a boy !

PRESS RELEASE 26th September 2009

ESSEX SENIOR LEAGUE

TAKELEY FC 0, BOWERS & PITSEA 4.

Don Watters could not believe the sloppiness and lack of commitment by his high flyers at home to Bowers and Pitsea, today. The first half was just about in favour of B&P, but two missed chances by Joe Galsworthy should have wrapped up the game in favour of the Station Road team. After the break Takeley decided to sleep on the job. A decent crowd in a day full of sunshine watched as Colin Carr’s men took Takeley to task and discovered so many holes in the defence that they gave Takeley the hiding of its life.

Michael Glidden gave away a corner in the first two minutes and Michael Fentiman headed over from close in to give Takeley some relief. Time and time again Bowers’ came forward, to no avail. Captain Craig Gillam made attempts to score from outside the penalty area only to see his shots go wide, or too high. The closest the visitors unnerved the Takeley keeper was a free ball to Robert Collins as he struck too wide, was on 28 minutes. Takeley should have measured up as three drives from Galsworthy, Kennedy and Ryan Williams crossed in front of the Bowers’ goal line from left to right and back, with no player in the middle to connect. On 40 minutes a push in the face to Adam Sontag unbalanced him and he fell badly on a severely twisted ankle. Time out for over ten minutes as Physios, players and officials rushed to aid the stricken Takeley player. The initial fear was that he had broken his ankle, but torn ligaments will keep Sontag out of action for a while. There were numerous fouls against Bowers and Pitsea, amongst which there were 12 free kicks in a quarter of an hour. The ref eree gave few admonishments and raised no coloured cards throughout the match.

Bowers newly built team of new players in the squad are so much bigger and heavier and their towering strength showed. The new management has changed a relatively ineffective team into a possible power house. On 44 minutes of play Joe Galsworthy (Takeley) belted in a shot from six yards, which only needed a tap to score. The ball clouted the underside of the bar and came back into play. Seconds later Galsworthy fired into the arms of George Anderson.

_________________________________________

Into Part Two and within ten minutes Takeley were put on the back foot as Mark Watters was deemed to foul Fentiman, as he fell to the ground in the penalty box. Captain Craig GILLAM rocked the net, from the spot and put the visitors in front.

54 minutes…TAKELEY FC 0, BOWERS & PITSEA 1 (Gillam pen).

Three minutes later Goalkeeper Andros Demosthenous to clear his lines, hit the back of Mark Watters and Michael FENTIMAN converted the rebound.

57 minutes…TAKELEY FC 0, BOWERS & PITSEA 2 (M. Fentiman).

Bowers and Pitsea kept up the pressure and forced a second penalty against Watters. This time Paul Carr struck from the spot and a great save by Andros Deosthenous retained the scoreline. Play became scrappy with Takeley never too dangerous, as every pass went wild. On 88 minutes Craig Gillam again on the warpath, without hindrance. Singularly he ran forward untackled and fired just wide as Demosthenous came out to meet him. Two minutes into added time and again Craig GILLAM ran forward unopposed, he pushed the ball past a crowd of defenders into the path of Jamie SALMON and he finished the move.

90 + 2 minutes…TAKELEY FC 0, BOWERS & PITSEA 3. (Salmon).

Still running, Bowers and Pitsea top scorer rounded Andros Demosthenous and the keeper misjudged the shot and dropped the ball onto the strikers foot. Craig GILLAM would not let that kind of error scrape away and without any defence around potted the visitors’ fourth,

90 + 5 minutes…TAKELEY FC 0, BOWERS & PITSEA 4. (Gillam).

Only Louis Bristow and substitute Alex Martin made any remarkable effect for Takeley, against the Bowers and Pitsea big defenders. Joe Galsworthy tried so hard as usual but lacked any decent back up, he could have turned the game inside out before half time. The Man of the Match was the big man who managed and mastered every Bowers’ move CRAIG GILLAM. He deserved recognition for his exhilarating commitment and attempts at every occasion. The Takeley defence never looked confident. Even top star of recent games Michael Kennedy was blotted out by a very powerful and masterly back line and midfield. Congratulations to Bowers and Pitsea. This lesson of control, distribution and finish should rejuvenate the Takeley side so hampered by injuries. James Amott, Gregg Williams and Steve Robins were sorely missed. Sontag now joins the list and James May was not available. Good to see Alex Martin and Charlie Pollard back, however.

Teams: TAKELEY FC: Andros DEMOSTHENOUS; Michael GLIDDEN, Stefan SZAJEWSKI; Michael KENNEDY, Mark WATTERS, Adam SONTAG; Chris DORRIAN (Capt), Ryan WILLIAMS, Chris GROVE, Joe GALSWORTHY, Louis BRISTOW. Substitutes: Charlie POLLARD, Lewis BAKER, Alex MARTIN.

Chair,

This was not a one man show as suggested, there was many Bowers players that warranted man of the match for different reasons, all the boys put there shift in, has been the case all season, there are no individuals in this team.

I’m afraid it was a case of Bowers being fitter, hungrier, and had better quality in every department.

This team will take some beating this season, as many other teams will find.

Well done the Bowers lads great effort, great result.

Bowers, only criticism is you must make more of the chances created, it should have been 8-0.

Chair, great job I know it's a thankless task, keep the good work up.

p.s. Fourth goal was scored by the Substitute Salmon

After watching a great game yesterday at Burnham Ramblers I think you may have got the second goal scorer for Mauritius wrong, Bishop was an un-used sub, the goal was actually scored by Agard (16).
