WEFC 0 - Farnboro' 1

Probably a fair result, unfortunately.

We played as though we were a bit overawed in the first half, let them use pace and skill and didn't get our basics right - how often were our 'passes' more hit-and-hope? And they certainly played more decisively, not significantly better but faster football, closing things down, moving the ball well. So we hardly tested their goalie, and Marcus in particular never got room to work, whenever he tried pushing forward there were defenders as big as him shutting off options. Still, I think our defence was at fault for the first goal: there should have been someone else in for the rebound after Rob saved it (good save, too, but it was such a powered shot he was never going to hold it).

After that we did seem to wake up more, or maybe Farnborough sat back a bit: Jake especially looked good down the wing, and we started creating chances.

And then the second half, I'd say we had the better of that - OK, both sides had a goalmouth clearance but we were creating more pressure, and they were playing more on the break rather than pushing constantly the way they had in the first half. And I'll admit I wasn't sure about taking Jake and Joe off but the subs looked very keen and seemed to give us more control on the left especially. Still, it didn't look like it was going to be our day... I hoped we might nick an equaliser, even after the sending-off (dangerous tackle? I was a bit too far to see clearly) but we needed Shed maybe to lurk and catch rebound ball, we got plenty of that...

No shame on the guys, though, they played well and I think would have beaten any lesser opposition. It did show up the difference between top of the Premier and (near-)top of our own division... we're not so far off but we're not there yet.

Hi there, called in yesterday to watch the game, we really enjoyed it, full blooded would be a good description, we came along as Keith Scott at one time played for Scarborough fc, the club I supported before it went to the wall, also there was unfriendly rivalry with Farnborough in the Graham Westley days as they were wanting us to be deducted points as they said we played an ineligable player, anyhow onto yesterdays game, thought you were unlucky as you mostly ran the second half, was very impressed with your number five Steve Butler, very physical and good tackler, we in the north like these attributes.

Good luck for the rest of the season, will keep an eye on you, you never know our new club Scarborough Athletic fc may at one time play against you, I would enjoy that, and seeing Scotty again. THANKS!!

Glad you enjoyed the visit! What brillaint weather for it!

As for the match i dont think we were outclassed and if anything played within ourselfs too much to often. The one time we really flowed they had to clear the ball off the line! Thought we played to narrow for alot of the game and hence couldnt get in and behind them!

At least the crowd was good with near 500 people. Clubhouse was busy too and great idea selling sarnies in there! Whilst we're talking of food ta to Mrs Scott for the free grub for us fans who stayed to watch Ipswich get rolled over!

Whilst i'm here can i add i'm very impressed with the amount of advertising boards suddenly sprung up. Few more of them and the lack of an FA Cup run wont hurt so much! Add to that the Lucky Number it's fantastic to see the club raising extra cash. What with the Darts side and a reborn supporters club, with the x-mas party around the corner, off the pitch things are starting to look up!! We've all got to really dig deep to make sure that Ian Dawsons's dream of Scotty the Stag happens! He produced an excellent 10 page manifesto as to the benfits of him dressing up and playing with the kids! After all there is a hell of a lot of them these days!

UTR!

Most has been said already and it's Sunday night so most will have forgot about the FA Cup and begin looking towards the FA Trophy for prize money.

However all I want to add is how frustrating it was to stand in the "Mrs. Cat Stand" for the 2nd half watching Scott Thomas making space, unmarked and wanting the ball... yet to no avail! Why was he shouting and nobody looking, the guy is quality at football and did shake the Farnborough right back as he was able to play with the ball before whipping it in!

Nice one to the Farnborough fans for turning up in force with money for our club!

Agreed re Thomas. Used sparingly so far, he looks the best player at the club to me.

I was chatting to some F'b fans at half time and they asked me what I thought of Marcus. I said that he hasn't been fully fit but looks like he will be a handful at our level. Amongst snorts and pitying glances in my direction, followed by some other fairly choice opinions as to his footballing ability they did warn me that he was unlikely to get any fitter. What we've seen is what we are going to get it seems.

Which, to be frank, ain't an awful lot.

Oh, and the tackle was horrific and definitely deserved the Red card.

Another Oh, I thought we WERE outclassed. Chennells and Richardson never got a sniff and if I hadn't known otherwise I'd have thought there were a couple of divisions between the teams. A plucky 2nd half display shouldn't mask the huge gulf in skill that we saw yesterday.
