Hi GHA.

Yes. Everything that you described is Southend-On-Sea apart from the toy warehouse which is now a Mercedes/Lexus dealership. It was Peter Pan's Playground on the sea side and Never Never Land on the Cliffs side. Talking of which, I see that the Cliffs are falling down in places.

The pier. There was once a disco at the end called the Diamond Horseshoe. It burnt down as I remember. Come to think of it, the bowling alley at the other end burnt down on another occasion. There have been several fires, I think.

Not to be confused with Leigh-On-Sea which is a horse of a very different colour. The Crooked Billet. Happy days.

You wouldn't really say sea-front, GHA. The cockle sheds and the mud flats have a charm of their own.

On a wild [weather!] night in October, at high tide, a training run along the sea path from Chalkwell station to Old Leigh is unforgettable.

Few tourists.
