At the end of the day the blame has to fall at the feet of the Manager & Coaches no where else. The team will lose the 3 points, the club now has a rep as a club that will cheat at whatever costs. The only way out for the club is to stand up and sack the manager and coaches and make a statement they will not stand for any cheating!!!!! The players can not be happy with it all they will now play for a club that is known for cheating, would you want that?

All well and good, but too many clubs are ruled by their managers which is of course nonsense. Managers need to stick to the team and leave the paperwork to someone else.

The club officials have to take the blame wholly and must take their punishment as such. If they can't be bothered to be at a game to oversee these things, or are too facile to realise that a ringer is on the team sheet or too cowardly to stand up to their manager, then they have to take their punishment and learn from it - or give up being involved in football at this level. Half the job of running a club is managing your manager. If they are bullies, then bully them back until they mend their ways or just go away. Decent managers tend to be at decently run clubs, quelle surprise!

There is no way i see how the club officials can take the blame for the manager & Coaches playing ringers. They can't be walking into changing rooms checking the players face to a name!!!! It is part of the job of the manager or coach to hand the team sheets to the ref. The only blame the club officials can take is taking on a manager & coaches that would cheat, their blame is for trusting people to carry the good name of the club. When you take on a manager you should not be having to say " We will do all the team paper work, No playing ringers and don't make as look like mugs" When you take on a manager you you do it with faith and trust you should not have to look into the dressing room every 5 mins or check the paperwork before it gets handed in. if this was the case i don't think many managers would work for that kind of club!!!! Blame sits at the feet of the manager & Coaches.

If it is the case and a ringer or 2 was played for WGC then i would hope for the sake of the club PF and his coaching team step down and let the club try and save face....

I've been waiting patiently for our expert on all matters non-league, Mr Rhodes to give us the benefit of his wisdom on this matter. Will he follow the view that it is the manager who should shoulder the blame or as the venerable Horace states, the club officials?

Wonder why he hasn't made an appearance.

I have purposely left this thread alone as it is none of my business, it is a matter between Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield Town

Well, we vociferously disagree there. It is a club official who should be doing this job. The manager and said official sit down and fill out the paperwork together and the official takes it into the ref. That is how a proper club runs.

As I said if the club can't be bothered to have anyone in attendance to do this, or succumbs to a manager who insists on doing it himself, then they only have themselves to blame. Club officials are there to oversee these things, because it is the right and proper way to do it and because it protects the clubs position. The official has to question his manager about anything on the teamsheet that is less than transparent and of course should know immediately which players were registered or not and suspended or not. This is why club officials are there and if it doesn't happen at your club, then it should do.

I agree with every word written by Wader above. It's a dereliction of duty to leave teamsheets to managers. If there is a case to answer for WGC, it won't be the manager who is punished for any guilt, but the CLUB.

  • 2 weeks later...

Article in Welwyn and Hatfield times today about this game....It states at half time Hats boss Trevor Lloyd wanted to keep his team for returning to the pitch... However, the Hatfield commitee insisted on completing the game to collect photographic evidence, avoiding a fine from the SSML and potential crowd safety issues.

Obviously we all know the incident is being investigated by SSML officials. How WGC thought they would get away with alledgedly player 'ringer/s' (if they did??????) in a local derby match where alot of people know the opossing players...

If WGC don't get someone in who not only has a bit of integrity but also is a half decent manager and they are staring relegation in the face. They clearly won't spend the money on the necessary ground improvements that they were given a years grace to stay in the Premier. Where does this leave Hatfield for the next season?

And before my beloved friends from the Atfield massive get on my case, and Tony Soprano puts a contract out on me - again!! I'm not having a dig, i'm just interested. Any news on the long awaited and deserved ground or the proposed improvements to Birchfield?
