Today is Whit Monday

Today is Whit Monday, and I have a day off, because it is a public holiday in Germany, and in many countries on the Continent.

 

Most of our public holidays here are not on a fixed day of the week. They are fixed dates, and when they fall on a Saturday or Sunday, that is bad luck for that year. So, although we have numerically more public holidays in Germany as in Britain, we effectively have less, at least in the North-West of Germany.

 

Still, the sun is shining, and I'm enjoying my day off work!

I've got the week off as well, for once can sit here in the middle of the day with the stereo full whack. As for Bank Hols, over-rated as far as I'm concerned, would be better like you say Colin falling anywhere in the week, Thursday or Friday would be better, even when it's a bank holiday it still has that Monday feeling.
