Stansted's win at Tring

Recommended Posts

Always interesting to read a neutral eyes view of our sides - especially when we win ( from the late another site )

Tring Athletic 3 Stansted 4 FA Vase

Admission £6/£4

Programe £1

Tea 50p- in a mug!

I had been to Tring many years agon before I kept hopping records. This meant I really had to go back. When I went to Tring the ground had seen better days but now it looks spick and span. The old wooden stand is still there and there is cover behind the goal. The social club and tea bar looked recently refurbished and the whole set up was very well run. The game matched the surroundings. It was fantastic. At first the visitors were all over Tring, but gradually Tring came into the match and they scored a great goal from a header. Then Stansted went to pieces and the home team scored again and should have had a third. Standsted pulled a goal back just before half time. The second half saw Stansted all over the home team but they were caught on the break and as Tring scored their third, I thought game over. How wrong I was. Stansted replied almost immediately and then equalised from one of the best own goals you'll ever see. I felt sad for the number 2 as he's had a good match. In injury time the visitors were awarded a free kick about 40 yards out, and close to the touchline. The ball was crossed in, the home defence was static, the keeper seemed to see the ball late and the ball flew over his head and into the net. It left the home fans and manager shaking their heads in disbelief. For the neutral though this was a great game.
