Colney Heath/Aylesbury

Recommended Posts

Excuse me being slightly off the pace on these issues , but could anyone enlighten me on the following ?

a)Colney Heath - Why the massively impressive form ? "I Cooper" who's scoring goals for fun - is this Ian Cooper (Kevin's

brother ?). If so why had he dropped down to the SSML ?

b)Aylesbury - Seem set to eclipse the "Ducks" ? Anyone any idea what;s happening here ?

Is it all down to money or is there othe stuff going on ?

cheers Dave

Dave - it is Ian Cooper. He's dropped down because work commitments dictate.

The team is gelling well together and, bar a few individual errors, we're not conceding many. We've come out of very difficult games with victories, esp. against Broxbourne, but we've also dominated teams (Hillingdon, Langford, last 25 minutes at Tring). The only blip was against Kingsbury, and that was because complacency let them score a soft free kick and a last minute penalty. We've only conceded one goal in the league from open play.

Re Aylesbury, I dont think the whole truth will ever come to light but in short a consortium was set up including the manager and ex manager of the ducks to buy out the exsisting board of Utd and amalgamate with Vale. The ducks being homeless for a number of years could have found themselves playing back in Aylesbury. Utd chairman pulled out of the deal at the last moment. The majority of the squad had decided to stay with the manager and play for their home town club, plus I believe with the offer of £15 per week to stay at Utd would not cover expenses to train at Wycombe and play home games at Leighton Buzzard, in fact it probably wouldn't cover any player insurance. I'm not connected to either club so I dont know any true facts and could be proved wrong on all, but this is just from forum info.

It's def not just down to money at Colney Heath - there are many more sides in the prem with bigger budgets. Basically just a good blend of youth and experience and two young, enthusiastic managers. No question Cooper is a big player for them but they've got goals coming from all over the pitch. Not sure about the title but top 6 is certainly realistic.

By the way, Cooper ended last season at London Colney so he's actually stepped up!

Prior to his brief spell with London Colney, Ian Cooper had played all his football at Step 4 or 3. When fit (as he appears to be now), he is far too good for SSMFL footy. Although goals ARE coming from all over the pitch, it is Coops' assists that are setting up many of the goals he doesn't actually score. He will be off to Step 3 soon.
