Pre Season Friendlies Which Do You Remember?

ok my memory is shocking but I have been reading Jeff Trices fantastic site all morning and it got me thinking. The one that stands out in my mind was seeing a West Ham 11 come down to Hartsdown Park, I was over the moon, my 2 favourite teams playing on the same pitch and the only time I ever saw West Ham live. I rember Julian Dicks taking a penalty saved by our keeper, posiibly a young Lee Turner? is that the right guy? How he was ever brave enough to save it I will never know, Julian Dicks eyes scared me rigid and I was standing in the stands behind the goal.

Remember it well FF, i was right behind the goal for that pen doing my very best to put him off.

Waited outside after the game with my son to try and grab a couple of autographs for him and Tony Cottee invited him onto the coach and got the whole squad to sign his programme, top bloke.

Was the keeper not Kevin Hudson or even Charlie Mitten. My memory is rubbish, to be fair, but I thought it was a bit too early for Lee. Whoever it was I remember thinking that they would have to pop to Garlinge to get their hand back!!

I cant remember for sure the keeper, may well have been Kevin Hudson, just know it wasnt Joe Radford I expected to see.

I know it may sound daft but I don't have any really favourite pre season friendlies of recent years. I find them all enjoyable, perhaps its just the fact that at that point in time we have arrived at what amounts to the start of the season in a way and there is the feeling of anticipation as to how the season is going to go.

However, I do have fond memories of what used to be the main preseason game going back to the fifties when it always used to be the anticipated first team against the reserves. I think we all used to hope that the reserves would win!

they sound like fun, a bit before my time to see the games from the fifties and sixties but its the sort of thing I want to know. Everyone has a special league or cup game, from when I started going it was any game we won I seem to remember more draws than anything else. But the pre season that stick out were the West Ham game and a few years later the Charlton game. I remember that one for a new keeper as well.
