Your correspondent missed a better one in the village half a mile further down the road. The Ugley Womens Institute. I kid you not.

 

The neighbouring village to Ugley is Ugley Green. There used to be a barn style shop there whose sign proudly proclaimed 'Ugley Green Sofas'.
