Holmesdale 6 v Margate reserves 2

Well it was a very hot and very frustrating day at Oakley rd.

The day started with the team losing most of its players to the 1st team. Phil had to scramble around and call up guys at very short notice.

Our players and walking wounded made it out onto the field. A team made up off under 16's and 18's and a few up to the age of 20.

Holmesdale soon showed us their preferred style of play, direct, long and shoot on sight. They took the lead on 6 Min's. Gate equalised a few minutes later with a well worked play and a touch from i believe Dan Hughes(I am writing this from memory so it may not be 100% correct and the names may be wrong so bare with me).

Margate took the lead with a fantastic individual goal. The ball was picked up in the middle of the Margate area, the lad then took the ball forward taking 3 if not 4 Holmesdale guys on the way, into the box where he beat a defender then played around the keeper and tapped it into the net.

Holmesdale equalised then took a 3-2 scoreline into the 2ND half.

Gate had lost 2 players in the 1st period to a combination of heat and sickness. We also lost Jason McAree at the break after a solid 1st half with blistered feet( this problem dogged the lad last year), in truth Jason should not have played at all but its a credit to the lad that he didn't want to let the club down.

Straight after the break Margate had a free kick on our left just out side the box, it was going in at the top right hand corner but the Holmesdale keeper managed just to get a finger tip to it.

After that Holmesdale took control and put in 3 more before the end.

I for one cannot wait for the return leg at Hartsdown as i believe we will beat them by a greater margin IF we can field our best team. I am sure the band of loyal, supporting parents who also made the treck feel the same.

Well done lads on a very difficult day.

Blueblood.
