Canvey Island Vs Maidstone Utd

I missed Horsham yesterday so I'm hoping Canvey can put in another great performance tomorrow.

Might we see a couple of changes with two games in three days? Looking back, August Bank Holiday fixtures at home have been quite positive, everyone remembers last season! grin

Maidstone's first five games have been all over the place, their only win coming against Waltham Abbey and looking at their results they have had more success away from home.

Last season Canvey only picked up one point from the six on offer, although I'm quietly opptimistic about this one so 2-0 to Canvey is my prediction.

I'm looking forward to this one, hopefully we can keep our current run of going and not get complacent. I'm going for a narrow 1-0 win, with Leon Gordon putting his Sutton miss behind him with a winner.

Come On You Yellows!

Looking forward to this match. Hopefully will be a decent crowd with Maidstone bringing a decent following.

Canvey to win 2-0 with James Rowe getting on the score sheet!!!

Good luck today boy's, wont be there again due to Henner's birthday (Allison's fault for booking a party to start at 3pm!!!). Hope the Yellow Army get behind the team as usual and I also think when Rowe gets his 1st plenty will follow, 4-1 for me with a Rowe hat-trick and Crow to get another from the spot.

FULL-TIME: Canvey Island 0-1 Maidstone Utd

Well, well, well.... What a game for a neutral! Terribly frustrating if you're a Canvey fan and one you can think yourself lucky to win if you're a Maidstone supporter!

The Gods were definately favouring Maidstone today in an incident packed second half. Typical though that Canvey will be seen as the villains having Manager John Batch sent to the stand and picking up more bookings than their opposition.

Was Batchy's frustrations towards the Referee justified? F**k yeah!! Lets not kid ourselves here, his decision making is what made a poor game terrible, hence the 7 minutes of injury time!

For those not at the game and wondering why the officials asked to be escorted out of the ground here's a rundown of possibly the worst Refereeing decision we'll see this season:

Corner comes in up the Seawall end from the right, Halle's header hits the bar and comes down onto the outstretched fist of Maidstone's no. 3 who punches the ball off the goal-line and subsequently cleared from danger. When the ball next goes out of play Canvey players surround the Referee in protest of what the Officials missed. John Batch is sent from the dugout and two Canvey players receive bookings, much to the amusement of Maidstone.

No matter what you say, this poor decision making definately changed the game for Canvey. The correct decision would've been to send the Maidstone player off and award a penalty. Not for this Referee!

As for most of the game, a make-shift back four withstood much pressure from Maidstone in the first half, their goal coming from an attack down their right, getting past Crow playing at left-back, crossed into the box and slotted low down to Russell's left post. Maidstone looked dangerous attacking down the right with Crow being run ragged until he was subbed to take over Management duties after Batch's dismissal.

Maidstone had done their homework and didn't allow Canvey to use any width and both Cohen and Fanibuyan were mostly ineffective. Canvey resorted to the long-ball tactic straight down the middle using Leon Gordon as the target man, which again had little to show for and when Canvey rarely did manage to get the ball at Rowe's feet he would have three of four men quickly close him down and muscle him off the ball.

Maidstone played a lot like Ashford and started with 8 men behind the ball, more determined not to let Canvey score rather than make any real chances for themselves. Ugly to watch, but effective on days like today.

On the whole a disappointing game that we need to forget about and focus on getting back on another unbeaten run when we visit Cray next Saturday.

this has got to have been the most blatant case of cheating by a set of officials i have ever seen. this referee has been here before and we have had nothing from him. in my book he goes down as the worst ref i have ever seen take charge of a game. as for the batchy sending off apparently the linesman said he saw the hand ball but could not do anything about it, that was when he signalled to the ref and john was sent to the stands.

i do not mind losing but to be cheated out of at least a draw or possibly a win against 10 men. i hope the club send a formal complaint to the league about this ref he is a disgrace.

He should be named and shamed with Paul's photos that he took after the game posted up. Am I right in thinking the Assistants both had the same last name, I assume this is a coincidence?

I think with the way we played we would've been very lucky to come away with all three points, a draw would've been fair in my opinion. You can't really blame Maidstone though, ok, their player cheated. But I felt the abuse towards their Goalkeeper was un-necessary, he agreed it was a penalty as did their fans.

Any reason why Paul was taking lots of photos of him at the end?

The Maidstone photographer caught the handball on his camera, will be good to see if they end up online!
