Aveley v Margate

Fantastic performance, great result. Better than them all over the pitch, they couldn't cope with some of our football in the final third. Had more chances as well, probably could have been 4 or 5. And also looked very solid at the back - never really felt they were ever going to score.

 

Nicholls had a very impressive debut - commanding in the air, did well with the comfortable saves he had to make. Would be a good signing if we could get him long(er)-term. Back three very solid - dealt with all 3000 long balls that were pumped forward by Aveley. Midfield looked more balanced with Smith playing as a holding midfielder - he looked very composed there. Also, it gave Wayne and Healy more licence to go forward. Wilson capped a very good performance with a fine goal. And the two forwards played well together as well, I thought. Blackman's goal was a fantastic goal - straight off the training ground and great to see such inventiveness. Billy Dunn never stopped running and looks a class act. Unlucky not to bag a goal. He is surely destined for bigger things.

 

Have to say: Aveley were very poor, for me. How they managed to put 6 past anyone is beyond me. Despite their positive start to the season, I think they'll struggle this year. But that shouldn't detract from our superb performance.

 

All in all: great win. If we play like that all season, we'll win more games than we lose. Now let's build on it. Well done lads!

What a great result,but Avely were not that good so we were playing against a lower half team.However these are the teams that we have to beat and we did that convincingly and everybody played well.Great to see Smithy playing well after such a long time out,so well done to him but I was particularly impressed by the front 3,Healy Blackman and Dunne.It was fantastic to see the way we fooled their defence from the free kick in exactly the way that Dartford did to us,brilliant. Well done to the guys behind the goal who made a lot of noise,great stuff.

Yeah it was a real good atmosphere last night. Probably more Margate fans than Aveley, and didn't really even hear a word of encouragement from the home fans. We, on the other hand, never stopped getting behind our boys, and it was good to see some of the... er... 'more experienced' () fans joining in with the singing. It paid dividends in the end!

He's basically saying that Nicholls is a very good keeper and hopes that the club can do a deal to keep him.

What was quite remarable for a Ryman match was that there were no yellow cards shown to either side. Infact,I do not think there was a bad tackle made the whole match.

Can hardly tell from 7 mins of a video clip-but do i get the impression that we harried the opposition and closed down both quicker and alot more in the aveley game ?
