Jason Broom is up for grabs

I watched him last season playing for Grays against Purfleet in the FA Vase(?) and Grays upset the form book at the time. He was one of the reasons, quick in the tackle and gets forward.

I heard though that Grays didn't want him either, thus why they loaned him out to Dagenham at the back end of the season. I recall seeing him play a number of times, the guy is class and would certainly be able to do a job for us.

Full-time Grays leave Broom out in the cold

Jason Broom: Put on the list at Grays Athletic, as the Thurrock Ryman Premier side plan to go full-time

THE longest serving Dagenham & Redbridge player of all time, Jason Broom, has been put on the transfer list by his current club Grays Athletic of the Ryman Premier.

Broom, 33, 11 seasons with the Daggers and the first of the players of the last decade to be granted a testimonial, nearly two years ago, is a victim of the Thurrock based club's decision to go full time.

Grays, who finished a lowly 20th in the Ryman Premier, have taken the almost unheard of step of clubs in their standard, to go full-time next season, under their manager, ex-Tottenham, Newcastle and Southend full-back Mark Stimson.

It was Stimson who told Broom last week that he didn't figure in Grays' future plans and that they would be listening to offers for him.

"They haven't really told me what they want for me, other than Mark Stimson suggesting that he might be interested in a player swap. They are planning to go full-time with a team of 18-22 year olds, so clearly I didn't figure.''

Broom, who is employed in the accounts department of a timber company, says: "I couldn't have considered full-time football and I don't need the income from it to live, but the club's policy ruled me out anyway.''

Broom signed a two year deal with Grays' when under former manager Craig Edwards, the ex-Barking boss, who is now in charge of fellow Ryman Premier side Ford United.

Edwards lost his job at the Recreation Ground midway through last season, but took over Ford in mid-season and rescued them from near certain relegation.

"I think Craig has got his squad assembled for next season, but he might be interested.''

Broom returned to his beloved Daggers for the final month of the season and was in the squad that reached the Conference Promotion Play-Off final, but lost to Doncaster Rovers, who won with a golden goal in extra time.

In the month building up to the final, Broom played in three games for the club, at Morecambe, Woking and Forest Green.

"You always know what you'll get from Jason,'' said Daggers boss Garry Hill when he re-signed him, "100 per effort and commitment.''

"I was grateful that Garry involved me in the last month, even though it ended in great disappointment,'' says the left-sided defender or midfielder.

Broom is eager to be involved in the coaching and management side of the sport and has already secured his first trophy as a manager, steering his Redbridge Sports Centre based Sunday League side Allied to the Essex Sunday Corinthian Cup, three weeks ago.

"I shall be doing my FA coaching badges during this summer. Perhaps I can find an opening on that side of the game,'' he says.

After reading urchino's piece on jason broom, it seems like we should be getting his signiture as we do really need to strengthen the left hand side of the defence, anyone with anymore thoughts on this one.

Depends how you are to play this year

IE 3 at the back with Jason as a wing back and you might be leaning on his history of injuries, I do not think he could ever play at left center back (not his style)

Left loose on left mid-field and he could be very good and would cover the left sided defender and get forward into striking/crossing positions

Where that could all be wrong is if George plays the "down the channels" game he is often prone to and Jason may have 90 minute problems with the old legs chasing down hopeful knocks down the channels

Lovel lad Jason and I wish him well
