Slough Town 5-1 Barton Rovers

Good all round performance, well done to all the lads today.

I for once didn't mind the slow start, seeing as we have gone all guns blazing in the last 2 games only to fade in the second halves.

Thought Martin and Hayes looked a lot better today, Sealey did well when he came on for the injured Herron.

Much better, I hope we can build on this on Tuesday and keep the goals flowing and playing for the full 90.

I don't think there's too much difference between Tuesday's performance and this one to be honest. We weren't as bad against Burnham as people are suggesting and today we weren't as good as some people will say we were.

For a 5-1 victory there were large spells when Barton Rovers had us on the back foot. I thought Barton looked far better than the scoreline suggests. Not being negative, it's great to win.

Sealey did great when he came on and was very positive. Good for Hayes to get a couple of goals and Bowden-Hasse confirmed again what a superb player he is. I'm still not convinced there's enough talking in the team though. In the second half the person I could hear above anyone was Michael Parkin who was at the opposite end to me.

Hopefully they'll use this as a confidence boost and build on this.

Still not convinced with Hayes. For Bateman to say Yash needs 4 chances to score a goal, the same surely applies to Hayes too!

Defensively the team still looks suspect in my mind, and I think a team with their shooting boots on today would have scored a couple more. A win is a win though!

First time I've seen STFC this year. I thought the front two looked lacking in cofidence at the start, but two goals chirped up Hayes - and he's very good at gathering the ball, holding it and laying it off.

Sealey did well, but Edgeworth was real class. Makes time for himself and when he had to get rid of the ball it almost always went to a Slough player. By contrast the back four (including Bowden-Haase, who was otherwise solid) tended to get rid of it to no-one in particular.

I enjoyed it a lot. I saw six games last season and only saw the Rebels score once!

Tom your right Hayes waste more chances than scores infact he nearly fluffed the first, Barton were alot better than Slough in the first 40mins if we had played a good side probably would have been behind at half time, still not sure about midfield seems to go missing alot and if Sinclair has a bad day cant see were the chances will come from, but a win is a win

For the first 30 minutes we looked a bit nervous with Barton causing us some problems with their neat passing game.

Once we scored the first goal you could see the confidence return. Bowden-Haase and Edwards look to forming a solid no nonsense partnership with Sweeney chipping in with an excellent game.

I think we will have to accept that our midfield are very much attack minded and will always be liable to give the opposition chances to score. This was evident with Bartons goal, although a very good goal that was sweetly struck, we did give the scorer plenty of space in front off the back four, to produce the shot.

I was impressed with Tyron Sealey who has staked his claim for a place in the starting eleven.

MoM has to be Steve Sinclair, apart from his tireless work rate, scored the best two goals of the game and set one up for Tommy Hayes with a perfect cross.

I thought that Barton were very poor indeed today. Having said that, they should have put at least 4 past us, which says alot about our midfield and our defence at times.

You can only beat what's in front of you, and we did that relatively comfortably, even though 5-1 flattered us a bit. My main worry is that had we been playing a half-decent attacking side, we would have been stuffed.

It's plainly obvious that our best is yet to come, and I for one can't wait until it does.

Poor defensively, but certainly didn't lack ability elsewhere. Yes they might have had 3 maybe 4, but then by the same token we could have had 10.

I thought they were unfortunate to go in 0-2 at H-T, but on Tuesday we could have gone in 1 or 2 up at H-T, so there we are, you don't always get what you deserve.

Barton are decent going forward - scored a cracking goal, and Richard Pringle will score goals for them at this level as he has done in the past, but very naive at the back. They caused Chesham a few problems on Tuesday as well i'm led to believe going forward. I think they'll improve as the season goes on. Plus they had 2 players out suspended today. Only just realised they are managed by former Rebel Gary Fitzgerald (from the Steve Browne era)

5-1 certainally did not flatter us in terms of chances created/near misses. We could have hit many more today thinking of the goal not given, Edgeworth hit the bar twice, NBH's volley that he tried to break the net with (!) and his header off the line. I think we did well today and nice to have a positive goal difference for the first time in about 3 years!

We certainly could have had more, in fact I think we should have netted 8 or 9 today. NBH could have scored a hat-trick, Hayes probably should have scored 3 or 4, Edgeworth's effort was definitely a yard over the line and should have counted, and there was a free header put wide by Edwards, and Martin forced Parkin into a very good save, just from memory.

But who can really be disappointed with a 5-1 win? It's been a while. Their goal was well taken but generally we played very well, getting off to a slowish start but getting two vital goals before half time to settle us down. The defence generally looks solid but a little panicky on occasions, and it's obvious we're going to create plenty going forwards this season. Losing Herron is a blow but Sealey was close to being my MOTM after coming on in the first half. Hopefully now Martin and Hayes can develop a good partnership and the goals will start flowing, plus there's Danny Jordan to come back in, who I understand has now signed for the season.

I thought Barton were a half decent attacking team, it was only their defence that really let them down.

They are a young team that, full credit to them, kept going to the end.

They maybe deserved another goal, but we certainly deserved to score at least another 2 or 3 and ran out worthy winners.

3 points against Leighton sets us up nicely for the FA cup game against Tring.

it was not the perfect performance but to win by that margin with the sense there is more to come from the team must surely bode well for the future

i did not think Barton were that bad a team at all really in fairness. defensively quite bad but attacking wise by no means the worst team we have played in the last few seasons. both teams could have got at least 2 more goals but thats football chances get missed in every game.

i like Herron but if Sealy keeps that level of performance Herron faces a struggle to get back in the side when over his injury.

the fact that Hayes got 2 goals and still looked fairly short of confidence can only surely be a good thing. i reckon he could get a lot of goals once it starts going really well for him. good that Martin also picked up a goal. O'Connor's impact was increased this game as well

Sinclair fully deserving of his goals after yet another tireless performance. the 2nd goal (sincs first) and the 4th goal (Hayes 2nd) were superb team goals

Having watched from covered end for much of the 2nd half, and remembering some of their missess from the 1st half, Barton's passing in the final third was abysmal. On at least 3 occassions they hit the ball out into the terraces from the right wing whilst under absolutly no pressure. They missed at least one chance where it was easier to score. Some of their shooting left alot to be desired as well. Really, had they had their shooting boots on, we wouldn't have had the confidence to go on and get 5, and we would have been thrashed.

Barton weren't that bad, however they failed to take their chances.

Hang on, a team that plays reasonably well, doesn't take their chances, defends badly....sounds VERY familiar from the last 2 seasons for us!!

Yes they could have had more goals, but the important thing is the victory, how about we stop worrying about that and enjoy what turned out to be a fine victory?

The scoreline doesn't flatter us that much. Perks didn't have that much to do and as people have said before, we could have scored another five on top. The key really was getting those two goals before half-time.

No need for negativity - been there, done that. It's in the past now, it was a deserved win and it gives us a platform for Tuesday and hopefully a cup run starting next Saturday!
