Town v Tilbury

Great game. Last season we would not have won that. This side are stil gelling and will get better. Fabio's ball control is superb. Just a bit dissapointed at the dissent shwon by Chris and Stuart. Great to see the legend that is Chopper back at Goldsdown Road.

I understand Stuart's "dissent" was to clap the ref. I didn't see him do that. I did, however, hear him ask the ref if he was getting booked (the first booking) for getting kicked in the face.

He did not use "foul and abusive language" (old version) or whatever the new version is. He just asked if he was getting booked for being kicked in the face.

Personally I think the ref got it wrong. He wasn't very good today in spells but was, I suppose, OK over 90 minutes.

Happy days, being at the Brimmabau yesterday was like going back in time a couple of seasons, familiar faces returning, players giving their all, an array of the new away shirt scattered around behind the goal made for a very pleasent & enjoyable afternoon.

On the pitch I thought we looked good with most noticeable every player giving 100%.

The first pen never was, Chopper got to the ball first before taking the player.

The second pen was a clear cut handball.

Can't comment on the Tilbury pen as I was the length of the pitch away.

The sending off of Stuart Blackburn was all very silly, dont know what was said as again I was too far away, but I hope the management team stamp out the verbal back chat to referee's quickly this season.

Overall I thought the ref had a decent game.

I thought Stuart looked class up front & hope to see Fabio? Flavio? (apologies first game of the season) up front alongside him rather than at right back, as after the sending off & the re-arranging I thought he was outstanding.

Some really good performances & a good atmosphere all this and George Borg still to come......HAPPY DAYS!!

Strange refereeing performance, as others have pointed out. Seemed to veer between excessive leniency and excessive fussiness. On the other hand not afraid to blow for offences for which some referees will give 'the benefit of the doubt' in the penalty area but not elsewhere.

Possibly overreacted to Stuart Blackburne's sarcasm but Stuart knew full well why he was booked (deservedly) and should have considered himself lucky not to already be walking with Rick Hayles for their little head-to-head - which the ref did very well to break up.

I thought the management missed a trick by taking off David Allen and bringing on Dave Blower in the reshuffle. If we were looking to win the game Allen to right back would have been my choice as he offers more going forward. Still we won, so what do I know?

Yesterdays game proved one thing.Valenti is NOT a wing back and is totally wasted in that position. He should be up top with Blackburne.Be it as a front pairing,or part of front three with Wallace.

Keys played a lot better second half once given the role of the attacking midfielder.Just as Velenti is no wing back, then niether is Ellams. He is a genuine left back but doesn't have the attacking instinct to play a more attacking role.Even when Edwards was marking the Tilbury right winger,Darryl still sat back there marking him as well, instead of showing any willingness to join in any forward play.Don't get me wrong,he IS a talented conventional left back.

Also Dave Allen should not have been taken off when we weretrying to strive for the winner. He is the only natural wing back at the club and his pace would have caused problems for Tilbury if he had been given a more attacking role in the last 20 minutes.

Overall though a very entertaining game, with some fairly good signs for the future
