Only two games but.....

And wasn't that an interesting penalty we got.

someone kicks high to win the ball and hits Seeds, who doubles over clutching his wrist to his chest - it looked like the Andover player's foot hit his wrist, to me, but maybe it was his chest. He wasn't appealing for a penalty (I don't think anyone did), looked to me as though he was just swearing at the pain and cross that he'd lost the ball. Next thing we know the ref's blown up and pointed to the spot.

My guess is it was given for dangerous play, but I've never seen a penalty awarded for that before, and I've seen a lot more premeditated and goal-stopping fouls ignored...

Meanwhile, as a friend was saying, we must stay awake when we're two goals up with 25 minutes to go. Kept happening last season as well; we'd be winning, suddenly take the pressure off and concede a goal or two, making the closing minutes too tense as we try to hang on for a win/draw.

Anyway we deserved the win. Plenty more chances: among them Fagan was unlucky with his first header, should probably have scored with the second and knew it; Chenns hit the post (think that would have been a hat-trick), and was it Shed's cheeky shot which their keeper only just pushed over the bar...?

Andover definitely looked better than last year, IMO. Quite route 1 at times but fairly effective and good in the air.

First game of the season for me last night. Obviously too early to tell how the season is going to pan out but you can't do anymore than win your first couple of games.

Anyway I thought Andover looked a pretty decent well organised side. I know its early days but they looked like a side that will be nearer the top than the bottom come the end of the season. A well earned 3 points imho.

The fluidity in the passing that went missing towards the end of last season seemed to be back in abundance. I thought the 2 wide players in particular were excellent. It was good to see Chennells back to his best. Also it was good to see Seedel and Wilson together in the middle of the park, I always thought we looked at our best last season when they played together.

We did look a bit disorganised at the back but I'm sure that was just a blip and normal service will be resumed by Saturday.

From what was considered to be an "easy" opening home game we got what we deseved but fair play to Andover for making the game very enjoyable exciting. Chatting to a few of their players after the game, Totton had 20 odd shots and scored none, Andover got a break and scored, could have happened to us near the end and we could have got a draw. We have looked good for the win in both games so far but there are a few goalscorers in this division that could put a dent in our promotion hopes if we are not more aware and don't finish games when we have the opportunity.

But i would say our squad looks stronger and more complete than last season, it seems to run more as a team. As good as Coyne was, Bruce gives a better overall performance, the working back after the ball is lost going forward shows a different level of commitment.

But 3 points Saturday and probably our best start for many seasons and a message of intent to the league!!
