I suppose I may as well chuck in my tuppence ha'penny's worth (bearing in mind that, as ever, there's a considerable deal of taking the p*ss going on in this thread). I can't for the life of me understand why Costello, Zeal, Canv and so on all hate Tony Blair so much - he's considerably more conservative in his politics than Margaret Thatcher ever was. I don't recall Blair introducing any socialist policies at all over the last six years at all - foundation hospitals, sucking up to George Dubya over the Iraq War, failure to reform the House Of Lords, holding out against the firefighters pay demands, hiking up tuition fees for higher education, staying in the pocket of Murdoch and The Daily Mail and so on and so forth. If he carries on at his current rate, he'll be bringing back the birch at the next general election. It's a widely held theory that Blair's current government is considerably more right-wing than Ted Heath's Conservative government of the early 1970s.

Personally, I can't really be arsed with politics any more. My parents, for example, were genuine Thatcher's Dream - working class people that got on with it and made a go of their lives until (due to ridiculous steel quota tariffs first introduced by Thatcher and upheld by John Major to appease American business interests in Europe) they were right royally f*cked over by a system that they'd believed in for the whole of their lives. The Labour Party are no better - they don't appear to actually have the balls to support anyone, regardless of class, age, colour or sex. They somehow manage to bollix up the lives of asylum-seekers without even making it seem as if they've got the "problem" (and I don't know nearly enough about it to say whether there actually is a "problem" or not) under control. They want to be part of some freakish United Sates Of Europe and the 52nd State of America at the same time. They want to be all things to all people, but wind up meaning nothing to anybody. As for the Liberal Democrats... well, no-one ever won an election by promising to put up taxes.

One other thing: I noticed with interest that was no mention in the manifesto of enforced repatriation for those born abroad, or those descended from immigrants. Good thing, if you ask me: after all, we're all French if you go back far enough and, if my etymology is correct, Costello is an Irish surname, isn't it...?
