Slough Town v Burnham

VERY disappointed after that.

We had enough chances to win that, but were punished by a good free kick and a mistake at the back.

I'm not convinced that our problem lies entirely with the strikers. In both todays and Saturdays games our midfield went AWOL under pressure in the second half, except for Steve Sinclair (who worked very hard again). It was only a matter of time before they marked up Sinclair and our entire midfield was bypassed.

We need to bring our midfield into the game in the second half of games, because the first half was good, we were playing the ball around well down both wings and down the middle and should have scored. There was pretty much no service to any of our 4 strikers in the second half.

Need a big improvement for Saturday, maybe even a mix up in the midfield?

A poor second half showing from the Rebels who just don't look like scoring. Its all well and good playing decent football, and Slough are playing some nice stuff but aren't creating or taking advantage of good opportunities.

Tonight for example - Burnham's keeper had 1 leg and couldn't kick. They should have been shooting from anywhere! Although he did well to keep them in it in the 2nd half, we should have had them in the 1st.

Burnham did their homework and I think the management team are guilty of not doing theirs. Burnham saw our threats down the right, and doubled up on Sweeney and Sinclair at every opportunity and left us to hit long. Martin and Hayes won nothing with Burnham's back-line.

It says a lot when you change both forwards and on top of that I don't think we have the options from the bench. Although once fit I can see O'Connor starting.

Lost 0-2

Forwards were ineffective again with Tommy getting involved but with little outcome, and Martin might as well not have bothered. Tommy is worth sticking with but Martin has the next two games to prove himself - and before I get slated for not giving them a chance, all I have to say is that players and managers were given too long for the last few seasons to turn things round and look what happened! Need to be more ruthless and get results this year.

Rest of the team performed reasonably but there is a major lack of shooting and hence limited pressure on the goal - still trying to walk the ball in and against a defence like Burnhams it will not work - also failed to put pressure on the injured keeper.

The lack of pre-season games where the first eleven actually played together is now showing and that is a managerial error.

Burnham stuck with it tonight and got the result, however I still cannot belive how few travel from Burnham for a local game!

Disappointing result after being the better side in the first-half, but second-half never really got going and Burnham deserved their win in the end.

Only real disappointment first-half was our lack of shots the keeper could hardly move. Hit one from 35-yards! Give it a go!!

No leadership. Stood behind Ricky Perks in the second half and all I could hear was Burnham's manager, their coaching staff and their players. Nobody either on our bench or on the pitch was even talking let alone sorting stuff out.

Good players they maybe but it'll go pear-shaped pretty quickly unless we get someone in to show some leadership qualities.

Have to agree with ian, just no encouragement through the team , not much communication ...but the jury is out until the 10 game marker for me...

lots of good football played in the first half , and to be honest not much between the teams...a deflected free kick , which should have never been awarded , the player dived, then poor graham turned in a horror display in the 2nd half...

but head up ...we will sort it...

Early days yet, however that said tonights performance was extremely disappointing. Burnham had all the good chances, even in the first half even when they had less of the possession.

As for the second half, what is it about Slough and the second half? Last season we always wilted in the second half, and the curse has struck again in both this season's games.

I agree with Chris that Hayes and Martin are too similar with neither likely to win much in the air against good defending. Sinclair needs to pass the ball earlier otherwise his undoubted effort is wasted.

i thought we were the better team by far 1st half. should have really been at least 1 up at half time if not 2 or 3 though Burnham had 1 off the line the other end.

i was very confused as to why Martin's goal was chalked off. looked very harsh to me.

deflected free kick and a poor mistake by edwards for the goals. Edwards had his worst game for us but its got to be remember the lad is still young and he has been amazing for us near enough every other game

1st half Burnham allowed us to get the ball to Sinclair in space. 2nd half that was completely different and for some reason switching the ball to Sinclair was the only tactic for us despite them clearly doubling up on him

taking both strikers off meant the game had finished as neither Gumbs or O'Connor look like even having a chance at the moment.

our midfield has good players but it seems we are going to be scared to change them if its not working even if it would be for the good of the team which is a bit of a worry

still obvious improvements on last few seasons at least thats something

nice to see Burnham fans enjoyed the win. not sure anyone was applauding or celebrating their win in the crowd at all

Isn't this getting a little tedious?? Virtually every pre season match report read ' we played well first half, but what happened to us second half?'

And now we throw away a 2 goal lead at Sutton and then tonights reports from our esteemed corrspondence says ..... well, you know what I am getting at!

I'm just glad Sweets isn't still in charge cos it would be carnage on here by now ......

Get it sorted and get it sorted quickly otherwise our season will be finished by the end of October

Mr Rebel, thats because their were hardly any Burnham 'fans' at the game.

I might be mis-taken but wasn't our dis-allowed goal a header by Edwards?

The game was over before the two forwards got taken off because both Martin and Hayes hardly had a shot on target all game again!

Wasn't a case of not taking chances it was more not creating them. Martin had one in the opening minute which the keeper parried then in the second we had a clear shot on goal which was hit straight at the keeper. Other than that everything else was little more than a half chance.

Don't agree that Burnham didn't dseserve the win. They contained us in the first half, hit us with a sucker goal early in the second and recognised our only threat (Sinclair) and stopped him playing. Everyone says you don't have to be world beaters to do well in these leagues and Burnham proved that tonight by being organised and effective.

I thought Martin had a decent game. His movement was good and he looked to hold the ball up and play in Herron and Sinclair which has to be the game plan as they pose a real threat. I just didn't think we got the rub of the green in the final third. Martin could have scored after a minute but didn't manage to get enough power on the shot, Tommy Hayes headed onto his own shoulder and still it took an eternity for the keeper to get down and save and Martin had one ruled out for a possible shove by Edwards. Quick decision from the lino so can't complain but I didn't see anything wrong with it but then I was looking at the ball.

Second half we wilted and you have to say that is probably due to the fact this team hasn't had a full pre-season together and fitness and lack of familiarity with each other caused problems.

At the moment Hayes and Martin are making similar runs and movements and look too similar. If they are smart enough players they will sort it out and could be a prolific partnership. They have only played two league games together. after all

I remember when Hodgey started, he looked like he had too many pasties and we couldn't see how he would ever get in the team ahead of Winston or Boot but we were soon proved wrong.....
