i would just like to bring you attention to the fact that when you say your not prepared to pay to watch them play this way then its now wonder we havent got enough good players, where do you think the money comes from trees. i for one although am not always able to make it to every game will do my hardest to be there. win or lose margate is who i support and i will be there whether we fold keep going or maybe even hit laegue football one day, shame on anyone who walks away you might as well go to ramsgate. this is the time that the club need our support the most so damn well get behind them.

Up the gate !!

can't believe the stick Pat's getting for coming out to challenge - I thought he was right to do so as nearly every time he got to the ball first and was able to clear the danger (albeit it might have looked a close call). As for the first goal completely agree with BGA that it was the best option in the circumstances with no defender there to deal with it - and he very nearly got there. Are these the same people who always complained about SCS not coming off his line? Goalkeepers always seem to get the blame as ultimately they are the last line but come on guys are we Margate SUPPORTERS or what?

Don I kinda agree with u but must say I thought Pat hesitated when making those forward challenges which gave their players time to dink him and pass the ball into the danger area, this must have frightened our defence (such as it was) cos that left a gaping hole where OUR goalie should have been. In pre season we looked like we were coming together as a team but on reflection we have a VERY long way to go IMO.

Isn't the goalkeeper supposed to try to make the target as small as possible, to make it easier for him to make a save, and harder for the striker to score? The faster he rushes out, the less time the striker has to set himself up for a shot, so he has to rush his shot, and is more likely to miss...

If he stands in the middle of his goalline for the entire game, all the opposition have to do is aim at the posts and he won't be able to get to it.

If he's rushing off his goalline too much, is that his fault, or the defence's fault for leaking like a badly plumbed shower?

Completely agree Stuy. The first goal was made extremely difficult because Pat made the target so small - more credit to the scorer than shame on the keeper to me

I think your picture tells the story Don, as yes he did make the target small (and Im not having a dig at Pat) but look at the distance between him and the posts - 6 to 7 yards, and he has full committed himself to the ground. With on rushing attack on the far post this split the whole defence and made it difficult for the whole team to defend. I am not saying he was wrong or that he was at fault for any of the goals but it makes the whole team nervous and if the defence is nervous then we will leak goals as has been proven.

we will have to agree to differ on this one Andy. Hopefully it's just a need for them to play as a unit as opposed to individuals - which should come (with time) or return of certain players

They split the defence with the attack. The free kick was set up to look like a cross was coming in, but then they played it to the other side, where there were no defenders. Three of the four guys in the wall just stood there staring at the ball, Healy was the only one who even attempted to chase it down, but he couldn't get near it. Arguably, he should have ran to the goal behind Pat

bit suprised about the treatment of wilson....and for someone to say that he is a steven gerrard wanabe is a bit childish. The man officialy was our best player last season and i think the treatment he has recieved is unfair and injust, he has had many different players playing with him in midfield so far and it must be hard for him. He is the best set piece taker in the league and probably above , he is capable of being the play maker and you an never fault his effort. I never see people moaning when he smashes bullets in from 25+ yards. For basically the whole of last season he carried the team.

Pat is our no 1 keeper so we should support him.If we play 3 at the back you are going to have bigger gaps there and Pat has to make a decision about closing down the ball or waiting for somebody to shoot. It looks like whatever decision he makes somebody is going to critisise him so he can't win.

Personally I think we might be better playing 4 at the back especially if we play wide midfielders such as Bernard and Cliffe because with 3 at the back the wide mids have to track back and help the back 3.Bernard showed that although he is very good going forward he cannot tackle,he is an out and out left winger.Against Dartford he should have been closing down their no 7 where all the dangerous crosses were coming from but he didn't because he was always to far forward.I am not critiscising him because he is a good left winger but I think that a back 4 would solve some of our problems and allow players like Bernard and Cliffe to attack the flanks.

I don't like to see 2 wide midfielders-they are out of the game too often.

Most play goes through the middle-so thats where you have at least 3 central midfield players-(play the percentages).

The wide players only get into the game for about one third of the game so effectively-you are only playing with 8.5/9 outfield players for two thirds of the game-and the opposition just cut through the middle.

One wide player-just about ok-two is a luxury.

Even then, assuming you have got quality wide men-at this level-through no fault of their own-the final delivery is either poor-or again-the quality of the striker is not good/quick enough to cope -so even if you create good chances from 'width'-most chances go begging anyway ,and its all a waste of time and a player.

I hope TY does not adopt a 'two winger' strategy.

I'd like to see a much more defensive outlook

Play the percentages.

It may not exite, but it grinds out positive results

Totally agree with the idea of a much more defensive outlook. I always believe that a successful team is built around a solid defence. If you have a solid defence it provides for extra protection to the goal keeper hopefully making their job easier, which in turn will lead to more confidence throughout the entire team and less critisism from the supporters towards certain players, which i amongst others have done this season on the forum.

Don't get me wrong, I think Wilson is a top player. He proved that last season. But on too many occasions for me he looks for the 'killer' pass when, quite often, a simple ball to feet would do better. On the other hand, I just can't agree with the opinion that he is one of the best set-piece deliverers in the league. Too often the ball is played far too deep and, subsequently, almost always ends up in the keeper's hands.

Had a great day on Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed it all. I got to Margate at around 5 o clock, giving me some time wonder around the place (the last time i had been there, i was very young).

I've read some of the posts on here and in my opinion you shouldn't be so hard on yourselves already. You have faced two of the biggest teams in this league and okay you lost 4-0 in both but you were playing against title challengers. I believe your next fixture is against Boredom Wood, I think in that match you will get a true indication of what kind of season you have ahead of you.

As an aside, something that struck me was why you didn't have netting around the ground to stop losing so many footballs, you guys must spend a fortune on footballs!!

I'd also like to add that the Margate player that impressed most for me was the black fellow who i believe played on the left wing (?).

Lastly, does anyone know the name of the song played just before the second half kicked off, it was a sort of dancehall kind of song from the 90's.. very random question i know but it's bugging me!!

Cheers,

see you at PP whenever the return fixture is.
