MFC vs Dartford

I can't help feeling that this is going to be a long hard season. I see little hope of things improving until the squad is drastically improved in certain areas. I think big Nev should sign, even though he hasn't played for years, i fail to see how he could ever play as badly as MULLINS did last night. I thought Mullins performance was so comical that he would have been better suited as a clown in Billy Smarts Circus, he at least gave everyone a laugh. Having followed the Gate for over 40 years and recall the dark days of Thanet United, i am not sure i can endure too much more of this shabolic excuse for football. I will always support the Gate, but am unsure i will be attending many more games until i see signs of improvement, which i cannot see happening all the time we play Pat the clown Mullins in goal.

The strange thing is our team is much stronger, on paper at least, than a year ago. 12 months ago we didn't have Blackman, Healey, Lewis, Lacey, Haverson and now Bernard.

I do think it is a case of needing to have a settled side, especially at the back. These players have to get used to playing alongside each other.

yes 2 bad results and a few positives also against properly 2 of the teams up for promotion. So give it a few more months it's only 2 games to be fair and if like this say October when we played more teams more on out level, then panic!!!!

Seems that Bernard has been around a bit...wikipedia makes him 27.

16 clubs in the last 10 years.

Arsenal

Bournemouth

Woking

Torquay United

Welling United

Barnet

Farnborough Town

Dover Athletic

Yeading

Hemel Hempstead Town

Fisher Athletic

Rushden & Diamonds

Weymouth

Maidenhead United

Bishop's Stortford

Margate

Certainly had some flair going forward, would like to see him playing infront of Curtis.

Spot on Jab, much too early to panic, I expected nothing from these two games, though I didnt expect both to be 4-0 defeats.

Agree with some at times we played some nice football especially start of second half, Rob's goal certainly killed us off as it was against the run of play. Then we did just fall apart until the last 15 mins or so.

Thought Sam Cliff played pretty good again which must bode well.

Having seen both games, I would just like to say that for me Sutton looked better than Dartford. Better ball control/movement/passing and fewer defensive errors. I'm not saying they will finish above Dartford because Darts have more money, which will matter later in the season.

As for our performance, I didn't see any improvement. Defensively inept both games. Morris is not a full back. Lewis may be experienced, but as for captaincy, the manager should be having a word. You don't improve young players by slagging them off, or when a forward tells you to get the defence organised, by shouting back 'I've got nothing to organise'. That was after 20 minutes by the way.

Also the keeper was lucky not to get shown up for going on tour a couple of times last night.

A plus point was how much calmer things seemed at the back when Smith came on. Here's hoping things will improve more when Young is available, although last season we were saying those two got in each other's way.

Players worth a mention: Lombardo on Saturday, C Robinson both games, Blackman (who must be frustrated at the lack of service).

The support was good for both teams last night, and I was pleased not to hear the non-stop moaning you sometimes get from a certain section of the crowd. Won't it be a shame if the club goes down the pan and we have no football to watch all winter? What's that you say? You wouldn't go over there would you?

I agree there were some positives last night

Sammy and Curtis gave 100%

Bernard looked a good prospect but for me looked like he was playing out of position.

Blackman and Healey kept on going but lacked service.

The negatives were that we appeared to be disorganised in midfield a majority of the time hence no service going forward.

What can be said about the defence, DID WE HAVE ONE? If so i didn't notice it during the entire 90 mins. Every time Dartford came forward i thought they looked like they would score, would not have been undeserved had we lost in double figures last night.

Goal Keeper - Pat couldn't decide if he wanted to play in goal, defence or midfield. I think the only part of the pitch he didn't visit during normal play was the Dartford half.

Yes Ian your probably right it was harsh on Billy Smarts Circus even they wouldn't want a performer that performs that badly on such a regular basis.

Very unfair on Pat IMO, I dont think he could be blamed for any of the goals, as you say the defence let us down last night but I am convinced with Dan and now Louis as back up things will improve.

I'm sorry BGA, but it appears that you watched a different game to most of us. The first goal Pat came charging out like a bull in a china shop, the 2nd and 3rd goals appeared to go either through his legs or underneath him.

I lost count of how many times he charged out and got nowhere near to the ball.

However i will offer praise where it's due, he did manage to catch the ball on at least 3 occasions!

He came out for first to try to cut out the clever free kick that the Darts took, he was only one in defence awake for it. As for Rob's goal I thought it was a great strike by him giving Pat no chance. Cant comment on 3rd as my view was blocked.

Yes he does wander of his line a lot but you see a lot of goalies do that, its in their character for some reason, guess they really want to be an outfield player wink

There's no point beating round the bush: that was absolute tripe. Comical keeper, can't defend, non-existant midfield and never looked like scoring.... doesn't exactly make a successful team. The only positive for me was the new lad - Bernard - thought he looked half-decent, but would serve us better further up the pitch. Robinson and Cliff obviously two very talented players, but they looked absolutely lost in the middle of the midfield. Add into the equation the fact that Wayne 'I think I'm Steven Gerrard' Wilson hasn't really got going yet (even in pre-season) and our midfield was overrun. As such, Dartford dominated us and, frankly, 4-0 flattered us. It could have - and probably should have - been 8 or 9.

Teams will be rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of playing us. The performance needs to increase tenfold if we are going to start seeing decent results. On that performance, if we finish 5th from bottom this year, it will be a bloody miracle! On Saturday, we have to play Blackman and Kenny up front with Healy just behind - that was the only forward combination that impressed me in the PSFs, and yet TY seems reluctant to go with it.
