The ref lost it in the first half. He was giving out yellow cards in the second for fouls that he didn't even blow up for in the first half!

The notable occasion happened in front of me when the lino flagged for a foul which started in the penalty area and was allowed to continue right to the touch line. The ref gave a throw.

However we did not lose because of the ref we lost because we did not score in the first half. I noted and spoke to some during the friendlies that the town lacks width and that remains the case. The wing backs and wing halves must get forward and start forming an understanding between them. Nearly every attack starts with channeling it through the middle. After the Ilford number 2 was taken off Darren? had acres of space for a brief period until number 11 realised he had to cover for the absence but he was not used during that 2-3 minutes at all. After the other Ilford player was sent off Town seemed to be the most disrupted - they lost all shape and seemed to want to pelt the ball to the front runners rather than use the obvious space that would be provided in the middle of the pitch.

Andy got forward in the first half and was playing around 10-15 yards from the penalty area even got the odd shot in however in the second half he appeared to be hanging back - why. At the moment he is the best distributor of the ball that we have.

The management need to find at least two good wide players and improve distribution in the middle of the pitch.

I have to say that the Ilford defence was well marshalled and number 5 had a damn good game.

I also agree with Steph. We lacked width throughout the game. I enjoyed the first half and should have gone in ahead. Ilford tightened their defence in the second and then got their pen. We didn't look like we would score in the second half and Ilford's game plan worked. Well done to them.

Definitely one of those games that you need to score first in. I actually thought that we had the ball over the line in the first half when it hit the bar, came down and bounced out, but I can see why it wasn't given, as it was definitely not clear cut. Stuart might have done better when he hit the post, but generally speaking, first half I thought we were excellent. Agree that we lost our direction a bit in the second, but I think giving away the goal knocked the stuffing out of us. I'm not totally sure about 3-5-2 either, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, as I saw enough in the first half to see that we are trying to play football, and build from the back. Jones was our MoM, and I was very impressed with Ellams, but overall, I think their 5 was the best player on the pitch.
