QE

lovely stuff

Recommended Posts

Thought i'd start a tread on the new stadium.Things seem to have gone very quiet regarding the site .With little outward sign of progress or even any new info.It now looks like there is little chance of the original planned date of the start of the 2010 being achievable. With mid season 2010 now looking probable.Although my money is on us not moving in till the start of the 2011 season.

On a slightly different note. Those who watched the Althletics world championships on the tv over the weekend would have noticed how smart the blue track looked. As Blue is a big part of our club colours, can i suggest that the same colour track be proposed for the QE rather than the usual red.(assuming the cost is comparable)

Mentioned at the society meeting that the overall short fall has increased.

I thought our colours were red and yellow, as per Saturday. As the track will be the responsibility of the Council, and the administartion is blue, then we will end up with a red track as all the others around.

It looked smart because only internationals use it.

  • 2 weeks later...

It could be made into an old fashioned cinder running track to match the building.

The only problem with the extra time allowing more money to be raised means that even more needs to be raised as prices will rise in the meantime so that isn't always such a good thing.

I dont know to answer your question, however, i'm also the wrong person to ask.

Logically speaking though there will always be huge obstacles to jump for a club of our side and the project that lies before us. I know The Emirates and Olympic complex went and are being built 'swimmingly' but we are voluntarily run organisation and i'm for one will be happy when the move is finally completed.

From the loose convo's i've had with those involved I scent that we could be a full season behind schedule, but thats my gut feeling not total fact.

I'm not sure that I follow. Presumably we operate at at at least break even, with one stadium (strictly, half a stadium) to maintain. When the QE is occupied, we will have two stadia (strictly one and a half...) to maintain. This may be offset by increased shares in bar profits etc at the QE but at the same time similar income at Brimmo will fall. It striks me that trying to run two stadia is going to be very difficult.

It would indeed be good to see some proposals. I would hope they are more than draft though if all approvals, funding and tenders are to be obtained by August 2010. Which of course they won't be.

i know we have a lease at brimmo, and it would be wasting all of the excellent work carried out by the volunteers over the years (for which there should be massive credit given), but surely it would be better to jsut leave brimsdown as soon as possible? they don't want us there, so why don't we leave it to them? I understand this may not be possible (due to the lease), but worth a look surely.

I think we need to seriously look at whether Brimsdown will continue to be benificial to ETFC both as a club and financially. One possible advantage is that IF the main stand stays at The Goldsdown, then there is the prospect of good rental money on the pitch per season.A Ryman graded ground in London will always be able to be leased out for good money.I would suggest around 5k+ per annum.

We also need to take a good look at the lease with regards to The Downs bar and the obligations of the combined Brimsdown holdings group, regarding the current sub letting that is going on there.I personally feel the current situation is unacceptable and if it doesn't break the terms of the joint lease (which is debatable),it certainly could be argued that it breaks the spirit in which the lease was signed.

Spot on, LS. I asked these questions on here way back, when we were first consulted abiut the Brimmo lease and again when the QE thing came up. I understand that it has been decided that we will continue with both stadia, with the reserves, youth and women using Brimmo (and the QE as well possibly???). How this all works and is to be paid for, I do not understand and that is the question I am asking here.

As I understand it, we have a joint 30 year lease on Brimmo, including the clubhouse and Downs bar?? At the QE we have use of the pitch and associated facilties (changing, stands etc) on match days only, and a full lease or rental on the bar. I'm sure someone will correct me where I am wrong. I get the idea that the QE is NOT "ours".

Therefore, it seems we will have a marginally increased income (bar) but a substantially incesaed liability (two stadia in part to maintain).

The Ladies will be playing at QE stadium as they were part of the agreement with the council.

From my understanding we have total control over the pitch, first floor AND cafe/bar..Would be very dissapointed if that wasn't the case.

That sounds better, but the facts that there is to be a running track, and the stadium will be used by other parties (schools, athletics clubs or whatever) indicates that the stadium is not "ours". If we relocate the stands from Brimsdown, as was the opriginal intention, will spectators for athletics events be allowed to use them? Will they pay us? Will athletes and officials be kept off the pitch? Who has "ownership" of the changing rooms, store rooms and so on ? What happens if there is a bookings clash in early or late season?
