Very very stupid of Lacy.

can take the expected defeat-but not that.

I was thinking throughout pre-season that the team itself looks ok,but the squad very very thin.

Need those two key players urgent, plus i guess-maybe Corbishley will prove his fitness and be available in early september, and possibly Smith in late October

A bloody embarassment today. We were awful all over the pitch. Lacey sent off for calling the ref a C--T apparently, he didn't kick the ball away from what I saw. The ref didn't give us anything at all and was blowing his whistle at every little challenge. Lacey was sent off after one of their players took out one of ours with a tackle from behind and after talking to him did not even show a yelllow. However no excuses we were terrible. The defence was nowhere with nobody taking control and talking to each other. We spent the whole of the first half just pumping the ball high up the park with nobody on the other end. And as for passing it was if the players had never met before, shocking. Sutton were not that great either, we were just poor. As for positives there was very little to show that we will get anything out of the next two games if we perform like that again. That is definately the worst game I have seen for a long time, the last being that terrible match against Grays at Ashford in our Conference days when we went away 0-6. We did hold them at bay for the last 20 minutes or so and if there was one positive we trioed to play passing football on the ground and looked a little better. But in 90 minutes I don't think their keeper had to make a save. Their goals from what I remember was two one on one with keeper, a free kick outside the box, which I think the keeper should have had as it was his territory at the far post, although it was a well taken free kick, and the penalty which was definately handball.

anyway others will no doubt have their say later when they make that long journey home

Not much to add to margateshot, except I don't agree Sutton were all that bad, although I admit it's hard to tell in such a one-sided affair. I thought they showed excellent ball control and accurate passing. Also by far the best player on the field was Stefan Payne the hat-trickster who they took off in the second half. If they keep this team together they should be right up there at the end of term.

Can somebody please tell me why Margate played in black and white against a team in all-yellow? Have we changed our colours? That would be a bit of a blow for all the posters on this message board with 'blue' in their names, wouldn't it?

Yup, I travelled too - thank you M25, NOT! Made me 15 minutes late....

A poor Margate performance and a reasonably good Sutton one. Hats off to Sutton, we didn't have a clue where the goal was.

Only positive was that is was a lovely day and it didn't rain!!!

I basically agree with Margate Shot as we were not that good. The ref made some awful decisions which unfortunately is just a continuation of last season. This is really frustrating but the players must show more control as the only way to have a chance of being competitive is to keep 11 men on the pitch.

Trying to find some positives,we were matching them for the first 20 minutes then they scored against the run of play with a well worked goal. They then scored from a free kick where we need more communication between the keeper and the wall.If the keeper had covered the unprotected part of the wall they would not have scored.

Then we went down to 10 men and that was when they really took control and at times looked pretty good but it was against 10 men.We conceded a penalty which was bad luck and our back 4 were split wide open for the other goal.If we had kept 11 men the score could have been 2-0 so I am reasonably optomistic that we can do a lot better on Tuesday.

Not there-but sounds about right to me;and adds a bit of perspective to the defeat.

What would the outcome have been if the first half penalty appeal had favoured us ?

It maybe was not as bad as it sounds yesterday ?

Also-don't be too harsh on the goalie-if you concede 4, chances the goalie at any level could have done better for at least one of the goals;and players are at ryman level-because they make more mistakes/inconsistent than players at levels above.

Interested in how many were in the defensive wall;because in the carlisle friendly-everyone raved about hartes free kick-BUT-we only had 3 in that defensive wall. Its a basic that you need at least 4 and probably 5 in any defensive wall-are we doing that as a basic ?

Was it yet another free kick given away unnecessarily ?

If you had asked me before the match-what game v sutton would you rather win ?,i'd take the FA Cup game.

re-match coming up real soon-27 days only

Has yesterdays defeat, and learnings helped us 'prepare' for that game ?

will it be interesting to see what (if any )changes are made to our starting line up before that game in a months time ?

I'm hoping we will be a completely different team by then. If TY gets the two players he wants and we get Dan Young back in defence I'm sure we will be capable of winning that match. I went on the Sutton website last night and even their fans said that we must be seething with the ref and were unlucky not to have had a penalty. As said earlier TY has probably learnt more yesterday than in all friendlies put together. The other thing of course is that we would be hard pressed to play worse.

Having conceded 4 goals in our last two league games at Staines and Sutton, but only having seen the Staines game-for those who may have witnessed both performances (they sound similar) -how would you compare the two performances ?
