FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round - 2009/2010

But replacement Ryan "not fit to lace his boots" Wade scored 3!!

I watched the alleged other Royston Moneybags target, Stuart Reynolds, performing dismally for Cranfield United this afternoon.

I was at the game, Royston deserved the win the boy up front Wade took his goals exceptionally well, however the no 11 was for me MOM.

I too was also at Crawley Green v Cranfield. I thought Cranfield's Stuart Reynolds was distinctly average, and was overshadowed by both Crawley forwards, who also had there top scorer from last year injured in the warm up.

I think Crawley Green could be dark horses for promotion this year. Beating Cranfield by a score that could have been 5 or 6 without there top scorer from last year and there captain from last year only coming off the bench with 20 minutes to play!

Any views Horace?

CG1984, it wasn't exactly a great advert for good football. 100 miles an hour and no real quality from either side. Cranfield were missing a few important players too. No doubt at the end of the season that Reynolds will have scored many more goals than the Crawley Green top scorer. Poor game yesterday, but the boy scores for fun.

I have seen Craig play several times before. He was not at the races on Sunday but I know he's better than that. Crawley Green thoroughly deserved their victory and Cranfield's goal was merely a consolation. I saw that Robbie O'D was limping badly as the teams came out but the front boys who played looked lively enough.
I don't see either side as promotion material on the evidence of Sunday's game though.

Crawley Green had by far more chances than Cranfield. Cranfield only had one chance in the first half where they should have scored and then their freak goal in the second half. I thought it was an entertaining, attacking game of football and a nice little cameo from one of Crawley's substitute's in the second half, which livened it up a bit as the game was petering out a bit.

Cranfield centre back was the pick of there players and Crawleys number 8 MOM.

That little no. 14 was good when he came on. Why do so many sides have tricky little subs who only get 15 minutes at the end?

Is Christian Lester still with you? Thought I saw him in a PSF, but he wasn't the 9 mentioned in the prog was he?

LATO - Strangely enough I was going to post exactly that last night, for me this was very much the result of the round, along with Aylesbury winning 6-0 at Langford, and you missed a treat by cutting off your nose to spite your face and not coming to Mill Meadow. Tokyngton took an early lead which rocked Chalfont to the core however they eventually took the game by the scruff of the neck and lead 2-1 at the break. The second period was a different ball game with Tokyngton equalising on the hour mark and missing a number of guilt edge chances, Dobber must have have been at a different game, possibly Amersham Town v Brache Sparta nearby. With seconds remaining however over zealous Referee Mr Webb gave a free kick just outside the box and needless to say Chalfont bundled the ball into the net for an undeserved victory, I don't even recall the game restarting.

Cliff you never mentioned Tok had a man sent off and from what I heard it was total possession from Chalfont with the Tok manager playing a formation that doesnt suit the players he has. Cockfosters on Wed should be an interesting game

Quote:

Saturday 15 August 2009
FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
Chalfont St Peter 3 Tokyngton Manor 2

Manor opened their FA Cup account at leafy Mill Meadow on a Wembley like playing surface against fellow Spartan South Midlands League outfit Chalfont St Peter from a division higher who finished in a lofty third place last season.
The early skirmishes were lively with Manor giving as good as they got and they took the lead on the 12 minute mark through debutante 'man mountain' Melford Simpson who was perfectly placed at the far post to nod home unchallenged following some excellent work on the left and a deep cross. The goal caught the hosts unawares however they began to up their game and started to cause Manor all sorts of problems with some intricate passing movements that had clearly been well rehearsed on the training ground. Chalfont drew level on 20 minutes when Michael Williams failed to clear his lines on the left touchline and a deep cross was swept into the net by Jerome Okimo at the far post.
Although Chalfont were in the ascendancy Manor's defence were doing well to keep them at bay however on 32 minutes they took the lead when Abishal Spooner gave away a free kick on the right for which he was harshly booked. The free kick was lofted in and Edward Chamlal found himself in space to place the ball high into the roof of the net. Manor were disappointed to go in at the break 2-1 in arrears however could feel proud of their battling first period display against a well drilled Premier Division side.
Following the break, and a seemingly inspirational team talk by Manor boss Matt Oliver, they took the game by the scruff of the neck and a rasping shot from Spooner went just wide. That was a sign of things to come and close to the hour mark Manor equalised from a low drive by Stuart Farrell which caught the keeper unawares. Manor deserved to be level for their endeavours on the day so far and to their credit did not sit back following the goal. Anthony Bayele replaced Ben Tomlinson with the game ebbing and flowing and Simpson was booked by Referee Mr Webb for a tame looking challenge. Manor missed a golden opportunity to take the lead with 15 minutes left on the clock when Andy Watson was sent clear down the right and his precision low cross was hacked clear off the line when only a touch from a Manor forward was required.
Disappointingly Spooner was sent off by an over zealous Mr Webb for a second yellow card offence however his tackle appeared perfectly legal. His brother Meshak Spooner then saved the day by making a superb blocking save to thwart Chris Woods who was bearing down on goal about to pull the trigger. Manor made a double substitution at this juncture with Watson and Williams departing and Simeon Hinds and David Adetule entering the fray at a hugely critical time in the proceedings.
With time nearly up, and a Wednesday night replay looking on the cards, Manor gave away a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the penalty area, the kick was blocked however deflected for a corner with seconds remaining. Disaster and heartbreak then struck for Manor as from the resulting flag kick the ball was headed into the net by Adam Bunce despite a brave attempt by Spooner.
With barely time to restart the game Manor were desperately unlucky to exit the prestigious FA Cup particularly in those circumstances so late in the day however travelled back to London with their heads held high.
Manor now host Cockfosters in a league fixture on Wednesday evening (19 August), rather than deservedly hosting Chalfont St Peter in a lucrative FA Cup replay, before travelling to Stony Stratford Town on Saturday, kick off 3.00.

Manor Team: M. Spooner, Chandler, Hellmut, Williams, Tomlinson, Owen (Capt), A. Spooner, Farrell, Watson, Simpson, G Sufi
Subs: Bayele, Adetule, Hinds

Bosman08 - Really, where did you hear that from, do you have friends at Chalfont St Peter. This is a fairly accurate description of the proceedings on Saturday.

Christian Lester is injured at the moment as is Cranfields other striker Ashley Deverall that is why Stuart Reynolds was upfront on his own on Sunday.

The ball must have been out of play for the majority of the game - I have never seen so many throw ons in one match!
