Pubs near the ground

How are you getting into windsor? If you have time and dont mind a 25 min walk the better, and in some cases cheaper, pubs in windsor are the ones right by the castle near to the Queen Victoria statue!

If you want to stay close to the ground there are 4 within 300 yards of the ground all on the same road! Avoid The Fawn, Avoid the Prince Albert! The duke's okay if you like a quiet pub and the musical styles of Boyzone and Ronan Keatings solo work!

And as for the Stag and Hounds, depends if its open as i've been told it's shut! The newest land lords have jacked it in!!! Forget Newcastle or Slough for having many managers this is beyond a joke! I'm gutted as i actually had a pint that wasnt flat on sunday!

Hope that helps!! If not www.beerintheevening.com

If you're coming from Riverside station, nip over the road to the Royal Oak for an expensive pint, then head up the hill ignoring the tourist traps until you get to Queen Victoria's statue, at the corner where the castle turns away from the town proper.

Or from Central station keep heading uphill (in the same direction as when you get off the train), ignore the overpriced posers' bar (HaHa!) and head uphill to the same statue.

Then head uphill a little way more and look right down the cobbles: the Horse & Groom right in front of you is quietest, the Carpenter's is best for real ale, the Three Tuns has the best jukebox.

About 1pm, head straight down the pedestrian street (Peascod St), cross over a small road and get to the pubs at the traffic lights. Crosses' Corner and the Criterion are both good pubs so stop for another few smile.

Cross over & keep on down the same road, now called St Leonard's Road, best stop at the Trooper if you get thirsty again...

Then careful over a main road, down between two block of apartments & cross the other half of the main road, and you get to the second part of St Leonard's Road: hospital on the left, barracks on the right.

Stag Meadow is about 10 minutes walk now. On the way the Fawn's bearable, the Duke of York's small and the Stag & Hounds opposite the turning to the ground may or may not be open/under new management...

Cheers Guys - we parked at the ground and walked up to the Stag & Hounds for a few (as it was the closest and we are pretty lazy!), it was quite pleasant sat out the front in the sunshine - we even put a few quid into your club with a swifty in the club house at 7:40 before trudging up to the Burger Bar for a well earned tea!!

Well played last night and best of luck for the season.
