Aaron Quain

Ollie Gray and Curtis Winnett to Ramsgate, Harker to Canterbury City, Elliott Payne to Ramsgate, Dan Stubbs to Maidstone. These lads are moving to try and play 1st team football on a regular basis.

Are the likes of Paul Axon and Joe Taylor developing their football talent by spending their Saturday afternoons stuck on a subs bench. I could be wrong, but I guess Aaron decided; his football, would come on better playing regularly for a Kent League team rather than warming the bench for another season.

I hope they have every success in their moves.

All we can hope is that they return in a season or two the finished article and help us press on up the football pyramid.

I think Quain had plenty of chances at margate-and frankly-never took them.

Stubbs did more than ok-but has he reached his natural level-and maybe TY rightly wants that bit of extra quality;that can take things at least one level higher ?

Would 11 players of equivalent ability to stubbs get us promotion-probably not.

Equally sorry to see him go-but has he really got the ability to play beyond ryman/conf south level

I only saw Gray once-briefly-and never saw Winnnet-but share some disappointment that they moved on quite quickly.

However, in reality is TY really searching for players who are really special-e.g the equivalent of chris smalling-maidstone to Fulham first team in under one season.

Did this ultimately come down to who is the better player/prospect out of Quain or Cliffe ?

As i have only seen cliffe briefly-i could not comment; though he seems to get good reports.

like all younger players/winger types though-there is a massive difference to playing well in friendlies on hard pitches in the sun; to playing on a wet tuesday night in essex with a 6'4'' defender kicking lumps out of you

The problem is that Margate can't afford to keep players on the proviso that they may develop enough for the future. Even if out on loan I think some of their wages are still paid by the club. I would rather see the little money available being spent on players that we know can perform. Unfortunately we are not a premiership club who have time to nurture these players and bring them on. Quain has experienced first team football and is on some sort of wage so I don't think he would be content to go back to reserves and not get paid. These players were given their chance last season but we cant afford to wait too long for them to develop as proven last season.
