Kings Langley INFO Please?

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere on here - couldn't find a recent thread - have KL got working lights ready for the new season?

The NL Forum - which I frequent more often than on here - only has a recent Thread stating they had planning permission.

I knew it was reportedly touch 'n go whether they could retain their Div One status and there were frenzied appeals bouncing around at the AGM - or so I've read.

I mention it cos they are a due a MW home game on 18th Aug vs Hoddesdon (assuming they don't need a Cup replay) and there's no little 'footnote' in the Bulletin stating the game is being played elsewhere - suggests they can now play at Gaywood under lights?

Didn't they 'borrow' Hemel for their MW KOs last season?

Ta wink

Its a 'possible' - amidst quite a lengthy list of possibles for Tue week.

I'd read not long ago on the NL Forum, that Gaywood Pk has been much improved of late - indeed they are due to take delivery of some more seating - from Creasey Pk I think?
Of course my attendance is dependent upon a few obvious conditions -

i) the lights ARE working - though I spose the game could still get switched even at this late stage?
ii) Hoddy don't need a replay (vs Potton) after this Friday's Cup game
iii) the M25 is behaving - highly unlikely frown
iv) and this is the BIG one ....my missus lets me out !
My eldest is back from his hols next weekend - so might want to come out too - gives me a bit more leverage. wink

Ta.

Royals26 - You may want to PM an anorak on the another Forum called Osborne who was at their game today:

Kings Langley 1 Ampthill Town 3

Admission

Ampthill is deep in Beds ...

...and how the 'Dickens' wink is Broadstairs - lived down that way for quite a while in the 70s - up by the Whitfield Monument and then we moved over to 'Ramsgit' v. nr Southwood.

... do you get to Prices Ave much or are you a 'Hartsdown' man?

PS Rhodes Ta I might PM Osborne - from this extract from his report above he doesn't cover any improvements/additions to the lighting.

Nor are they likely to have tried them out ! smile

BUT he might have kept his Programme - which will reveal all?

... and quite co-incidentally I remember from my 'yoof' in 'Fannit' watching a 'Margit' match where the wizened ol' groundsman went round at half-time and literally kick-started the lights!

They must have had some dispute with a fellah who owned a house at the corner of their ground - regular as clockwork at half-time he used to light a gert big bonfire! laugh

Hornet - Wasn't that your first ever post on here, be careful or you will get Football Man after you putting you straight that I wasn't actually at the game. Ampthill Town are in darkest Bedfordshire, there are 19 Club's in the SSML affiliated to the Herts FA, I assume the Championship side you're refering to is Watford, you may well know Spidermanor who will be down in the mouth today after their shocking home 1-1 draw with Doncaster yesterday.

... AAAAND - did you know that 'Ampthill' means (quite literally) "Ant-infested heap" ! shocked

... unless of course some Beds. haters are being 'creative' with Wikipedia?

.. at some point - for a short while - last season it showed Enfield Town's nickname as 'The Kn@bheads' and their Attendance as: 'One Man and his Dog' wink

... oh and another thing Rhodes - Donny were the form team towards the end of the Chumpionship last season - had a thundering run which (I think) took them from nr the bottom up as high as 8th - they ended up behind the Hornets, but only on GD.

PS back on Topic - had a response to this query on NL Forum but still no firm answer one way or t'other - evidently isn't clear from whatever was in the Prog from yesterday's game?

Royals26 - Come on, you know as well as I do that Watford's home form has left a lot to be desired for a couple of seasons now, Vicarage Road should be a fortress of Bamburgh Castle proportions but it isn't and you have to ask why not.

I'd rather not enter into a debate re home form and 'fortresses' - my lot couldn't beat an egg at the MadStad and haven't looked like doing so since late Jan - even then Wolves scored the goal for us - and our only other Home Win THIS YEAR was 4-0 against ....... Uh Oh - better not mention that.... grin

... at least all four were genuine. wink

Excellent report on SP's blog, as always, BUT he's not conclusive about whether the new lights work or not - and by his own reply on the NL Forum - the Programme doesn't reveal anything about the match on the 18th either?.

I've had a PM response from 'Osborne' - who posted the original report - and - in conversation with 2 officials at Kings Langley - got a definite 'Yes' and (unsettlingly) a firm 'Dont Know' as to whether the lights were fully commissioned and ready to be used! crazy

Can ANYONE else shed light tongue on this darkening mystery please?

Sorry no - not seen Cambo for quite a while - you might be able to pick something up from the CCL F'Focus - look for anything by Krooner - or there's always VP - who also posts on the NL Forum - but I'm not sure if he'll want to give any secrets away. wink

They are often quite good in the early rounds of both Cup Competitions.

You're not exactly missing one of Non-League's treats either - Krooner Pk has been a 'work in progress' since it got burnt down way back in the very early 90's - always seemed to be a bit of a dust bowl too.

Got the impression that teams playing the 'long game' tended to benefit there - but like I say haven't been there for a while.

... expect East Preston will need some luck I think Cambo have been pretty strong at home of late.

... got a fairly routine Home win on the opening day.
