Thought we were the better side first-half but did not create enough chances, and when the chance to shoot did come we decided to pass the ball to try and get in a better scoring position.

Second-half I thought some of the fitness levels showed for some players recently back and Ashford controlled the second, but a very encouraging first half against a side who almost made the play-off's last season in the league above ours.

Elliott Buchanan is a former Stevenage striker who is very capable at this level. Former England U21 manager Peter Taylor signed him when he was manager of Stevenage a couple of years back from Northwood where he scored 23 times in 26 games in one particular season.

Without over analizing the game today we looked good going forward but looked vulnerable to the counter attack and when our two central defenders were attacked with pace.

Our midfield look good going forward but it looks like no one has been told to sit and hold to break up the counter attack.

IMO we are 3 players short of being a very good team.

A central defensive sweeper

A midfield holding player and

A forward with a bit of pace.

At least two of Ashford's goals would have been prevented if we had these types of players.

For info: the scorers of Ashford's second and third goals were Scott Weight and Warren Harris respectively. Thought Slough caused us more problems than Ashford (Kent) had a week before.

Good luck for the new season and with obtaining a new ground within Slough.

I'd agree with you on the defensive midfielder. Kean is more of a creative player who sprays the ball around nicely and Edgeworth is an attacking central midfielder. I guess that was what Stevenson was initially signed for. We need a Darron Wilkinson, but they are hard to find!

Think were OK at centre back and for pace up front as we have Yash. Think we need a poacher in front of goal, which is hopefully what Buchanan is. For me both Pringle and Hayes are too similar to Martin, who we have signed already.

Have watched buchanen when he was at bishiops stortford and he seemed like a good consistent striker without being too flash. With him and simon martin up front we will be alright for goals, especially with the service that will come from the middle of the park.

However, from the pre season game i have seen this year, i know im crap when it comes to pre season only seeing one game. Anyway that was camberley and i thought DJ looked much sharper and I would like to see him get a chance up front to recreate his form of last season.

Good to have a headache for picking the squad.

Cant wait till next saturday now!!!!
