Why aren't posts read, shown as cleared after they have been opened, until you re-enter and log in ??

The first one is surely what Ian_W is meaning. An expert told me, that web sites would work better because all things (colours, picture effects etc.) are done with the server, not with the browser you are using. That is why all messages look the same with the different (with the old and newer) browsers.
