Maldon 0-1 BTFC

I thought this was a pretty convincing win - Flackie got the goal and we hit the woodwork twice. Encouraging to see Baker and Sullivan both playing well.

Game was ruined as a spectacle by a supremely overfussy referee, hope we don't get him again.

A good way to end pre-season, a slightly more competitive game and one where I thought we were better value than the scoreline suggested.

Simon has got his lefts and rights a bit mixed up for those looking at the team in an alarmed manner. Non league-favourite smile Fiston Manuella got a run out in midfield and I thought did pretty well.

I suppose we have to wait til Saturday to find out what Brian's first choice xi will be.

Pleased pre-season is over now and looking forward to the real action. Come on you Blues!!

Sorry to be ignorant, but are Wiles and Oates our central defence now? Also was Yiga the big black guy up front? I thought if so that he has a lot of potential. Again disappointed with Baker.

I would have introduced myself Town Cryer, but I don't know who you are. Maybe Saturday if you give me a description?

I'm not sure if he's actually signed or not. He's been with us for all of pre-season though. He's been played right side and up top - whilst we have some proper competition in those areas I'd be more than happy to see him included in our first team squad this season.

I'd hope we could do better than the last two seasons' finishes of 11th and 10th. We have a new manager this season and a largely new squad so I suppose we have to wait and see how they all fit together. I think the bookies have us joint 5th favs for the league and hopefully we can be up there challenging for a play-off place at the end.

I think it possible, if we have a decent season.

We averaged 423 last season and we were average on the park (there are tjose that would say I am being more than kind). With a decent season, a good cup run and perhaps top 5, I think we can increase the average to 600 - 650. Even if we don't make top 5 but keep the season alive to the last week, we can certainly get that as previous seasons have proved.

I think the support for the club is healthy in comparison to some of our local rivals (actually, it's "rude" it's so healthy). It may take a dip when things are not going our way but our Membership was 50% of the avereage last season and I believe it can be even better this season. Our new Membership "stream" accounts for a third of our Membership this season, even though these are "hard core" supporters.

It's not just about the football though. It's about the club. Yes, a succesful season on the park is a main priority to supporters but there are plenty of football enthusiasts in and arouind the town that don't know we exist. And if they do, they obviously don't know where we are. I know this is a drum that has been beaten this season and I appreciate that some of us do spread the word (some of us have encouraged our freinds down to the club last season) but this season, we need to get out and promote the club. Put posters up, join in with the High Street promotions (we have one this weekend on Saturday morning) and come up with ideas for promotions. Posting on the forum and Facebook is okay for the converted and they are important (I certainly appreciate the flow of information I now get - many thanks BB) but "pressing the flesh" and meeting people still is "king" in my opinion.
