Canvey Island 2-1 Sittingbourne

A lacklustre game that never got out of second gear in very hot conditions.

Canvey's goals scored by James Rowe and Leon Gordon. James Russell saved a Sittingbourne penalty.

1. James Russell

2. Frank Everett

3. Andrew West

4. Ben Patten

5. Chris Moore

6. Craig Davidson

7. Leon Gordon

8. Kevin Dobinson

9. Gabriel Fanibuyan

10. James Rowe

11. Greg Cohen

SUBS: Jay Curran, Stuart Batch, Nick Reynolds, Ryan Edgar, Richard Bastin.

Not a brilliant performance by far, but it's an extra game to get us fitter and sharper for next Saturday's trip to Harrow. I feel the line-up put out today will be much the same as the one fielded next weekend, with the exception of Leon Gordon and Gab Fanibuyan swapping roles.

Good work out today for both sides and a change of shape for us to look at..

Have to say todays lino Mr G Eckett was terrible, how did he ever qualify as a Ref!! smile

To be honest we still need a player or 2 as i feel the squad is lacking a little bit of pace that is needed at this level..

I thought Gab played really well and Rowe looked angerous every time he got a sniff of goal..

Its all down to next Saturday now when there is 3 points up for grabs..!

Priority must be a natural left-back, Westy went AWOL a couple of times during the first half but once he switched to his natural right-side he was superb.

We rarely go for loan options, but surely our new friends at Chelsea have an U19 they can lend us grin, if not there must be loads banging about in the Reserve teams of most League 1/2 Clubs. help

Matt don't worry about loan players.Theres a couple of young men in the ressies who no doubt will figure in the back line in the future.Ricky allen is a decent central defender who without doubt will get games this season theres also a young full back George Whitby(GIG)who has just come out of youth football hopefully will get a chance in the future.Take the chance to see all the best of the emerging talent who will get the chance to play and learn with first team squad on a weekly basis thats on wednesday evenings in the capital league.

I've liked what I've seen of Allen throughout the friendlies and no doubt he will be give some first-team football this season. Only saw Whitby against Braintree, but again he and Buglione looked impressive when given their chance.

I also really enjoyed watching the Reserves last season and with them being represented in two leagues this season, I plan to keep up the attendance! Although I don't think the Reserve games are as well publicised as they could be.

The Reserves will be promoted more this season that ever before. Paul took all of the Reserve squad photos and team photo on Saturday so the supporters can become more interested in the side. I'll continue to produce the small programme for matches as I was at the end of last season, and the boards around the island will continue to be used to promote both first team and reserve matches.

I think we all realise that we have to start bringing players through the ranks these days, and it's only a matter of time before some of the lads in the Reserves at the moment break into the first team fold. Lewis Edwards in particular looks like a real talent, and Richard Bastin has already stepped up to being the second keeper for the first team.

The future is looking good smile

Although he wasn't the most talented footballer at school, Lewis was a brilliant athlete. Looks like he's been keeping at it though so good on him, I hope he features more.

Glen, when will these pics be on the official site?

They're on the site now with a new Team Photo - including Danny Kerrigan and I think Reiss Noel.

Kerrigan's profile made it onto the Squad Page too! grin
