According to this report it sounded a much closer game than the scoreline suggests:

MK Wanderers 2 Aston Clinton 6 South Midlands League Division 2 Cup semi final.

Admission £0free

Programme £1 ( donation)

Tea70p (in a mug)

h/c 34

This wouldn't be my usual choice of game but a kind offer of a lift saw me at MK. The match was played on the second pitch because the main pitch was waterlogged, however you couldn't tell which was the main pitch as both had no facilities. The club has a very good clubhouse all thanks to the hardwork of the chairman who has tried hard to get this club decent club facilities. The game was very strange, at half time it was 2-2 and my Dad and I criticised the home club for their dangerous off side trap that had given away two goals. We both said the team ought to play a with a sweeper. That's what they did in the second half and they conceeded 4 goals, what do I know about football?? This was an entertaining game and a pleasant day out.

Rhodes, how does reading this report make you think it was a close game? First half yes it was a close affair but the second half there was only one team in it. Fingers crossed the final will be played at Aylesbury.

Talc - Well if you read the report it says that the score was 2-2 and at that point in the game it could have gone either way, if MK Wanderers hadn't changed their tactics at the interval they may well have gone on to win

To be honest it was about who wanted it more and the Aston boys showed more work rate and desire on the day to get to the final. Other then a couple of late shots at goal when we were 6-2 up out keeper was never really worked at all in the second half.

So Aston Clinton are still on course for a clean sweep this season, I just hope they don't do a Leeds United in 1969/1970.

Talc - Seriously, well you're probably not old enough to remember their infamous 1969/1970 campaign

No not really, I started supporting them in 72 the year we beat Arsenal I was 7. However I know the history they had 2 many games, they played one day had one day off and played again the next. Sounds a bit like what we are going to have at Aston the the way it's going. Looks like tonight's game might be off as they have a pitch inspection later (waterlogged pitch).

At this rate we will tempt LATO out of the woodwork, I expect the 7-0 win against Southampton in 1971/1972 only seems like yesterday

Talc - Dunstable Town may disagree with you after their win at Herns Lans last Saturday

I was at that 1972 final and still maintain that had Bob Wilson not got injured beforehand Arsenal would have won, he would have saved Allan Clarke's header

Talc - Well I assume you saw the goal, Mick Jones I think it was crossed the ball from the corner flag right on Clarke's head however Bob Wilson would have known exactly where the header was going to go whereas Geoff Barnett didn't have a clue
