Margate v Ashford Report

I think I missed Wellsie so here is a bit of a report for anyone not there tonight.

Margate rounded off their home pre-season campaign with a comfortable 3-0 over former landlords Ashford Town at Hartsdown Park.

Dan Young started off on the bench, presumably in advance of his three match ban at the start of the season, along with Aaron Lacy while Aaron Beech was believed to be with the reserves at their game in Deal.

Coming in were goalkeeper Stuart Robinson and Canterbury City midfielder Dan Langiano, while Paul Agu, who was briefly with Margate in recent years, was on the bench. Langiano sat just in front of the backline while triallist David Cory started up front alongside Lloyd Blackman, with the ever improving Joe Healy slotting in behind.

After a slow start Margate gradually took control and Blackman gave the first warning shot after thirteen minutes when, after a good interchange with Wayne Wilson, he clipped the bar from twenty yards.

Ashford hit straight back and after an awkward deflection the ball fell to Paul Jones six yards out but his shot on the turn was way over Robinson

Great report-sounds like first half was quite even;and maybe the scoreline flattered us a bit ?

Not that the score matters.

Did Wilsons injury look really bad-or just a heavy knock.really it seems we just have wilson in central midfield which is a concern for me.

I think the guy has got massive potential; but do i read a bit too often-a few times last season-that Wheatley is a bit prone to non too subtle challenges in our own penalty area that could (and have) easily resulted in conceding penalties by a crafty opponent-something to coach him out of ?

Yorath quite impressed by Cory :

On Cory
