Oi! mdetaylor. Great T.V. last night.

 

Well mdet. What a masterpiece of television 'University Challenge - The Professionals' was last night. Did you catch it? It made that documentary series 'The Firm', or whatever it was called, look like fiction. When the Commercial Property chap rushed into the Library for a copy of Woodfall to check what a Section 25 Notice is. It fell open at the right page. That was lucky. Lucky for the client - It's only one unit of time on that basis.

 

Back to the meeting, 16 senior lawyers, locked in the largest room in the building. Whisper to the Senior Partner "It's something to do with a lease renewal, guv."

 

In his bio at the start: "No day's the same. The phone rings and you never know what a client's going to ask you". How about "How long does it take to complete a straightforward lease renewal, whizz-kid?".

 

Or "How many pages in a Pre-Contract Agreement?"

 

Priceless. Still he did know that Clapton was in Derek and the Dominoes. Err. That was his limit, I think.

 

I had a feeling that all of the lawyers are from the same firm. Can't be from The Magic Circle. I wonder if they held some kind of auditions to make the team? I wonder who didn't make it? They should be heaving a sigh of relief this morning. Forget the 15 minutes af fame stuff. Not a great career move.

 

One thing's for sure. My good friend, lector and mentor, G.Angel couldn't have been one of them.

Where is AFF anyway?

 

Trying to make the world of commercial property seem thrilling is a hard job for anyone.

 

Not sure who they were, trying to find out, but by the look of their offices I would guess top 30. It was in the Gazette last week, I will try and dig a copy out.

 

They auditioned a number of firms (and that lot obviously got unlucky).

 

Very impressed by the Partners on each end, particularly the one who failed on the Transport secretary.

You would not believe the series of coincidences and actions taken by The Magnificent 4 which caused my inadvertant, temporary ban from making new postings. As I believe that you have a rudimentary knowledge of litigation, I won't go further.

I know one of the CommProp Partners at TG's. I'll have a word. We were trying to work out at AFF Towers how many volumes of The Law Society Gazette that chap was sitting on in the studio. Either that or he was standing up throughout.

 

In truth mdet, I had thought that it was your firm because you had mentioned on an earlier thread weeks ago that you were to be an understudy or something. I thought to myself "well it must have been fixed if mdet can't get on ahead of those bozos".

 

Paxo didn't seem too overwraught with sympathy for the cream of the legal profession at the end. What did he say? Something about 'You were cr@p but it's unlikely to affect your fee-earning potential for this year"? Mind you. when Madame Mim suggested that Arthur Miller was born in 1888 and that Vivaldi wrote a piece in 1927, he did well to keep a straight face. Trainees eh?

A splendid summary - I liked the Vivaldi one as well.

 

Your memory is nearly right - I was the reserve for my University team but was thwarted by holiday and the powers that be here - our lot struggled through the audition with no luck (too may IP lawyers I fear).

 

If you know partners at A/T*G (*delete as appropriate) then you are likely to know some here!
