Yiga West Wareham

Subs

Flack, Bricknell, Semanshia, Hamilton for Dumas, Pond, Yiga, West (ht - went to 4-4-2)

Chatting for Wareham

Need to defend better at corners - 2 sloppy goals tonight. Looked a lot better playing 4-4-2, West was too often isolated up front in the first half. Apart from Flack, I thought we looked pretty fit and strong. Only Baker and Sullivan missing.

For us i thought we had a lousy first half with the now quick first goal give away still in operation (Defence issues still need to be addressed).

The second half was so different well played and good team interplay at times.

Seems like the master plan may well be working and a good solid team seems to be emerging out of the friendlies so far (just my humble opinion mind)

Personally i can't wait to see the back of these friendlies and the season to start.

Nice hat Simon!

First half was quite a slow pace, but second half game stepped up (probably a lot to do with halftime changes. West had (imo) 2 glorious chances in first half, but the difference between a quality striker and a lad learning is simply he should have slid the ball across the keeper instead of rush of blood at the keeper. He will learn from that. Defensively we got caught out by 3 balls into the box, Barnet reacted the quicker, but even so Walker was damned right to slam his defence after the third. Our goal was simple but brilliant ! quality cross and header.

Yep, friendlies nearly over (thank god) smile

I've just been chatting with my colleague (who is a Spurs fan) about the lack of a win during our pre-season friendlies so far. He provided these encouraging words which I will share with you:

"I wouldn't worry - Spurs beat Roma 5-0 in a pre-season friendly last year and then went on to have a crap season"

I hope that gives you a crumb of comfort for the forthcoming season smile

I also preferred the 4-4-2 which seemed to work better. As ever Billy ran for everything. It was a good game overall lots of pace and I don't think we saw the trainers at all. Our fitness levels look pretty good.

Some good hard challenges which the ref handled ok.

We do need a win to get a bit of confidence and the defence is looking very porous, not quite fortress New Lodge yet!

Interesting to know if the management have got their starting eleven in mind, there seem to be quite a few who have not had much of a run out yet and I presume there will be a few culled from the squad.

Good to see Dorms given the freedom of midfield, I thought he had a very good game and maybe taking the captaincy away will also give him more opportunity to relax and show us the great skills we all know he has.

Agree, we looked a lot more solid/better in the second half. Barnet were a tough test for us, they worked hard, chased everything and were very strong. A game like that not only challenges our lads football skill and physical fitness, it also tests their character. A good workout, and an enjoyable game.

Billy looked very sharp; it could be an interesting season for him.

I think a lot of the goals we've conceded have come from a loss of concentration - we've tended to concede a lot of goals in the opening stages of the half (1 in each half v Barnet being the latest), and a lot of goals from set pieces where we haven't sorted out our marking.

In the Braintree game we kept our concentration well and would have kept a clean sheet had Neal not dropped one over the line. That sort of display is what we need to try and reproduce - starting with St Albans on Saturday please!
