Leverstock Green game

Recommended Posts

Started off similar to Saturday. In fairness they were not a bad side and took it seriously. Still look a little rusty in front of goal though but hopefully that will come before the season starts.

DJ our best player tonight IMO. Hats off to him as his fitness is excellent now which he's clearly worked on in pre-season and he gets up and down the pitch really well. Had some great touches tonight.

did the 2 new strikers look more likely to score than others we have used in pre-season so far??

if the back 4 was Clark, Gumbs, Jackman and Daly i am not surprised we let in a goal

really worrying we are not scoring. yes its preseason and it does not mean too much but still goals have to come soon

also is Hayes another new trialist??

Pre-season does mean a lot if we're not fielding anything like a first team and therefore not getting anyone fit or working on formations. When do we do that? During the first 6 or 7 games of the season after which time we could be in trouble again?

Plus we seem to be back in the habit of losing and thinking it's ok. This seems more shambolic than last year when Derek Sweetman was pilloried for his pre-season campaign. Maybe I'm being over sensitive but I'm nothing like as optimistic about the coming season as I was four or five weeks ago when we supposedly signed all these good players.

Its extremely hard to disagree with that, especially as apparently we will have less players Saturday.

Ian Brown and Jon Stevenson despite signing have yet to play a game. 1 clean sheet in pre-season and losing to teams in lower leagues with the players we have signed wasn't really what I envisioned.

I accept players during pre-season have other commitments, but in terms of them coming and going on what almost seems like shift work this pre-season has got to have been one of the worst.

Agree pre season so far worse than last year but not all steves fault as for some reason all these "good" signings have not shown up.... will be intresting to see how long steve lasts if these players dont comit and this is what we can expect for the season.. a different side every week.. not impressed or excited for longer trips to strong oposition in midlands division...

I would like to think that Bateman will try and get as close to his first team as possible out for the games against Harrow, Hemel and Ashford. 3 big tests for our new squad so I hope he will be looking to gel everyone together, however given the availability of some of the players so far I'm not so sure he will be able to do that.

Hemel game is off as SYCOB's pitch is not ready. Gary will confirm.

I'm not suprised that a few players were missing last night (anyone that braved the M25 at 5.30pm last night will know why!) Remember kick-off was at 6.30 and they all have jobs!

What's disappointing for me is the fact that if Hemel is off and the rumours of less players for Saturday's match being about we have one pre-season match left, and some of the players have hardly seen each other.

Take Gumbsy for example a striker. He's played the last two matches at centre back. Do you think he'll start the Sutton game at centre back? No chance! Yet he's playing centre-back when we have recognised centre backs such as Edwards, Jackman, Harper, Hicks and Smith (all will be ahead of him as centre backs you'd like to think).

I do think we have some very good players, and when we get everyone together we will have a good side, but it's just a bit frustrating at the moment. I think when we get all the players on the pitch we'll show were a good side, it's just when that will happen though!!

Jesus! Not even played a leauge game and some of you have got the knives out. It'll take time to get a whole new side working as a team at 100% so even if they all played every pre-season game together you've got to expect odd results!

Read the comments before you spout off trying to stirr up trouble!

Nobody is slagging off the team or really the pre-season results, they mean nothing.

People are very happy with the players - people are just disappointed we are yet to see what is seen as our 'first team' play together with just a couple of pre-season matches left before going into the new season.

I'm honestly not trying to cause trouble .Whilt it's not ideal for you not to have your first XI playing yet the post about the what could happen in the first 6-7 games etc is a bit premature in my view.

If you read it properly you'll see what I mean. We have an almost entirely new team this season so we're starting from a point way behind others in terms of understanding our best team, best formation and the players understanding each other. That is fine as we needed fresh blood but given that situation we needed to have these players together as early as possible.

It would appear that the first time they'll all play together (if at all) is when the season starts and whilst we seem to have signed good players I'm not sure they are SO good that they can just turn up and win games. Hence my nervousness for the first 6 or 7 games against more settled teams who've probably had a more stable pre-season.

Is that ok, Woody, or shall I try words with less syllables?

Pringle is well known to non-league fans in the Three counties area having had various spells with Aylesbury, Stotfold, Barton, Arlesey, Hemel, Dunstable, Bedford and Hitchin. Works hard but dosen't score many. Released by Hitchin after a couple of games without playing 90 mins this pre-season.
