Hartsdown Park was a hive of activity on Tuesday with the National launch of Margate Skill School, the new initiative from the Margate Learning Zone.

This is a great coup for the club and hopefully it can move forward with the initiative. It states in the paper that about 70 pupils will be using the facility from the start. Lets hope some of those kids see whats going on at the club and come along to a match or two with their parents. Maybe some vouchers would not go amiss. If my memory serves me right the facility is planned to be housed in the new stand at the coffin end.

I have to agree with blueblood though that it was a shame that the local paper had to pick up on the negatives from the tournament. I cannot see any point in commenting on the pitches and the way they are constructed. Surely they are the same or similar to any other facility of its kind around the country. The comment seems to blame the appalling behaviour of one player, probably not even from this area, on the fact that there ae high fences in the 5 a sides!

Just to be clear, the incident with the referee happened as part of a national tournament and as far as I know was NOT related to the Margate Learning Zone and launch of the new initiative. They just happened to be reported together.

Yes guys I realised that, but as the articles were together in the paper it took a bit of the shine off the MLZ. I did state that the player involved was probably not local in my post. The point I wanted to make also is that the tournament was a great success with lots of national teams taking part, but the only thing the paper could pick up on was a negative. It could have been a good advert for MFC but they report an assault and have a dig at the facilities which were obviously deemed good enough for the tournament in the first place. It makes you wonder what MFC can do to gain local support.

The report does mention the refs chief saying a number of refs have refused to officiate at the five-a-side centre, so it would appear there is some kind of problem.

The attack on the ref was a serious incident and it would be naive to think the paper wouldn't concentrate on that. I hope whoever it was is caught.

Recognise anyone from the photo!

If there was a problem with the size of the pitches surely the people who run this NATIONAL tournament would not have chosen us?

Naivety does not come into it. Why are we naive to expect the positives should be treated with equal respects as the negatives. Times are hard enough and it is getting harder out there for people (traders) with out the so called responsible press filling its pages with negatives. There was an afternoon of great football, from teams based all over the country. In the eyes of the press, a split second action by a d**k head wiped all this out.

As a taxi driver, every Friday / Saturday night I see much worse on the sea fronts and in the streets of our local towns. I think to my self after watching any one of the numerous fights, "I'll read about that in the local press Tuesday," to see what happened. Or, I watch the police dragging people out of properties as i drive by.

One week night I sat for 20 minutes waiting for a job in Northdown rd by the shop on the corner of Madeira rd. In that 20 minutes I was approach for money by people wanting to buy drugs, I saw drug deals taking place from passing cars, I saw a girl trying to sell her body and I saw a kid mugged for his phone.

Our friends as Taxi drivers call the authorities did drive past, but, didn't seem to notice. Also there is a camera in the vicinity. I do not park between the said junction and the Zion place junction any more.

Where are the local press when all this is going on. If they are there why is it not reported or is the bad news of one D**k head at a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP easy news, with no effort needed.
