Just heard the 'Gate beat City 5-0 tonight, all I know is that Lloyd Blackman scored 2 goals in the first half.

thought it was 6 nil best part of the evening was when the young forwards were unleashed with about 20 mins to go.

Margate in total command for all the game. Good to see the new captain going forward to congratulate one of the young players after the last goal. We have a feast of football to look forward too this year.

Beresford

Robinson

B Lewis

Young

Quain

Lacy

Wilson

A Beech

Healy

Blackman

Pratt

Seemed to be a back 5 with Lacy and Quain pushing on.

Beech and Wilson in the middle.

Healy just behind Blackman and Pratt.

Did not get all subs but Chris Lewis, Joe Taylor, Sam Cliff and Paul Axon were amongst those who came on.

Also named on the bench were Gavin Wright, Shane Brown and Lee Peacock (although I think he got held up.

Goal 1 - Pratt cut back from byline for blackman to fire home

Goal 2 - Lacy ball in slotted home by Blackman

Goal 3 - Can't recall it but seem to remember someone cut inside in the box and fired home

Goal 4 - Cliff with a 25 yard left-footer just inside the near post

Goal 5 - Ball in came off ex Margate player Ryan Harkers foot and face and in for an OG

These may be in the wrong order!

Comfortable run-out with Beech and Cliff looking particularly impressive.

Think the subs were

Cliff (for Quain)

Taylor (for Pratt)

Axon (for Lacy)

Lewis (for Healy)

Brown (for Blackman)

Peach of a third from Sam Cliff who was very good in his half hour I thought. The fourth was scored by Chris Lewis which was a very good goal too. Great composure to beat two defenders at close quarters and tuck it away.

Was nice to hear a keeper talk - Beresford did well and threw the ball out at every opportunity.

overall a good looking side , beech looks a good player but still feel we need that big bruiser in there to boss play.

blackman had a good game and wasnt afraid to shoot on site which is positive.

beresford had a good game with some great catches and nice and loud.

brilliant goals by cliff and lewis.

pleased with another good game and nice seeing so many go in for us rather than against lol

If Aaron Beech carries on the way he is going and gets back to full fitness am sure he will be in the final shake up.

As for Carpenter I believe he is not what Terry is looking for.

Sam Cliffe, Chris Lewis and Shane Brown were superb when they came on and hustled and bustled the Canterbury defence into submission, after Blackman, Pratt and Healy had given them the run around in the first 60 mins or so.

Must agree with the above statements, Blackman was hungry to impress and did just that, Beech sprayed the ball long and considering hes been injured for the last 18 months converted about 75% of his passes. Sam Cliff will Im sure bulldoze his way into the first team cos he ran his socks off and for such a young lad kept his composure on and off the ball. Curtis Robinson just keeps getting better all the time (kinda hope we can keep hold of him before the big boys come a sniffing). Too many positives to mention on this thread, but all-in-all a VERY Good display - lets take it to the league this season cos I think even with the scores from Carlisle and Grays the team is shaping up nicely.... smile

Maybe so CE but they have given us good games in the past even beating a full strength side last season I seem to remember. IMO they are a couple of leagues from where they should be am sure. So also IMO it was a very good result.

Glad DR mentioned Curtis. My man of the match. The way Young Sam takes a long high pass and controls it and turn, is excellent. All played well, the first half team were passing it around with ease at times. Lets not forget that Sam, the German, Shane and the rest of the youngsters still need time, they are not yet the finnished article.

Personally I think the Reserves are OK playing in the Kent league 1 but, personally I would love to see them playing regular friendlies against teams such as Millwall,Charlton, Palace, Woking and Ebbsfleet youth sides.

I feel in the Kent floodlight, you are just playing the same old same old.

Perhaps see some of you at the game on Saturday. Reserves away at Tilbury. 3-00 kick off.

Glad to see Beresford playing 90 mins and keeping a clean sheet.

I heard he hasn't had a summer break and has been working really hard with Neville. Really good to see him being get a bit of recognition in the form of minutes.

And Cliffy is going to be great, in the mould of Joey Cole..

Did notice last night that it was TY doing most of the shouting and not big Nev, also noticed he was mostly shouting at young Joe Taylor to get forward more, but not sure he had much chance as we do have some very similiar (holding fwds) players as himself in the second half. Interesting in the second half to see us trying to keep the ball more to frustrate Canterbury, playing it from deep in the defence to build an attack, but the finishing still need some work smile.

Also like to add Ben Lewis is maybe the vocal/physical captain we have been missing for the last few seasons.

All in all: impressive performance. Beresford didn't have a lot to do, but what he did have to do, he did well. Commanding at crosses and his distribution was very good. Liked how he was always keen to roll the ball out wide to get a move flowing rather than the same old punt forward every time.

Defence looked solid, Lewis could prove to be the experience we really need at the back to bring on the likes of Young, Haverson, Wheats and Smith. Robinson superb again. I hold my hands up, this time last year, I wasn't his biggest fan. But, now, he would be one of the first names on the team sheet for me. There has been a marked improvement in his attitude and all-round gameplay. Let's hope we can hold on to him.

Midfield looked nice and balanced. And the forwards looked threatening all game. Nice to see we have a striker who's not afraid to shoot in Blackman. Think him, Healy and Pratt could work well together.

And, of course, special praise must go to the young lads - Lewis, Brown, Taylor, Cliff - who, when they came on, tore the opposition apart time and time again.

Granted, the opposition were - to be frank - absolutely appalling, but you can only beat who you are up against. It was nice to see us try and keep the ball on the deck and playing some lovely football at times. But, overall, promising signs. If we can build on it, a mid-table finish could certainly be in our sights, which, in my opinion, would be a huge achievement.
