Rowe's goal was definitely the highlight of the game. A superb finish.

Thought Lucky looked lively down the right wing and took his goal superbly.

Leon and Jame Rowe linked up very well at times especially on the second goal.

Russell made a world class save in the second half.

James Russell is a top keeper, that save was blindingly good but I thought maybe he was helped by it being a bit closer to him than previously thought, but it was a exceptional reaction save and he had a very good game.

very good performance overall and can't wait for the season to start

UP THE YELLOWS!

p.s I hope we sign Russell and Cohen top class!

Here is an email that Brightlingsea Club Welfare Officer Ian Johnston-Pooley sent to the club after our match on Tuesday, a nice touch:

On behalf of Brightlingsea Regent FC we would like you to pass on our thanks to all your staff, players and spectators, for the invite to play at your ground, and the welcome they received.

For some of our young players it made them want to improve there playing so that they can become a better player and play in higher leagues on ground's like yours.

The older players were very impressed with your facilities and came back with plenty of ideas to improve our ground.

Once again thank you for the invite and all the best for the coming season. Below is the match report we have put on our web site:

Canvey island kindly invited us to play at there ground in an evening kick off after Wivenhoe Town pulled out at the last minute.

We travelled to the game a bit lighter than we would have liked with Deano, Coley, Auger, Mike Ainger, Bruce, Tom Hardy and Blossy all missing from the side.

We arrived at the ground to find excellent facilities and a near perfect pitch with everyone eager to play and had a decent warm up in front of the near 200 spectators which we were not expecting.

After a decent performance on the previous Saturday against Wivenhoe we knew it would be difficult playing a side competing in the Ryman Premier League this year and some 5 leagues above us. We started well and held a good shape with the defence working hard at times to keep there players at bay.

We could see from the early start that they were a decent outfit, playing quickly on the break and keeping the ball well but we held our own.

After 20 minutes Tevez(Ashley Sauka) found himself in at the back post heading narrowly wide and we could have found ourselves 1-0 nil up albeit Matt Griggs had made some great saves keeping us in the game.

We held on till 30 minutes when some sloppy play in the midfield we lost the ball and they went through striking against the post but finishing the rebounded effort. We conceded again shortly after when we lost the ball and after a good 1-2 there new signing Jamie Rowe lobbed a 35 yard shot into the roof of the net making it 2-0.

We continued battling and created 2 further good chances with Jake Gould in 1 on 1 shooting straight at the keeper and Tevez(Ashley Sauka) shooting wide from a volley.

At half time we found ourselves 2-0 nil down and perhaps a little unlucky not too have scored at least 1 and be in the game.

Everyone came in at half time feeling we had done well, playing against a good side and in fairness creating a few of our own chances.

We came out in the second half and got caught cold as Canvey started much the brighter side scoring 3 quick goals in the first 10 minutes, all clinical finishes.

After making some changes we steadied the ship and again created 2 massive chances as Tevez(Ashley Sauka) went down the right and whipped a great ball into Ross Barnard who directed the header goal wards only to be stopped from scoring by a great one handed save from there keeper.

A few minutes later Ross Barnard found himself one on one with the whole pitch to run into again shooting left footed straight at the keeper.

We tired towards the end of the game with there fitness and strength showing and conceded a late goal to another corner.

So a loss of 6-0 but perhaps on reflection we were unlucky not to have scored a couple and made it slightly more interesting.

A great first half performance with loads of positives and a big thank you to Canvey Island who were very complimentary about the level of our commitment and players ability.

Nice report and rather accurate albeit, it's "their Goalkeeper" not "there", sorry.

I often feel it is good to play a couple of teams from their level of football because you may just scout someone who could be a potential star for your own Club and to offer them a chance at Ryman Premier football.
